Overview

Hobby Lobby Distribution is responsible for receiving, storing and shipping merchandise to Hobby Lobby’s 1,000+ retail stores around the country. The Distribution Center comprises 11 buildings with over 12 million square feet, containing 50+ miles of conveyor, several automated picking systems, automated vehicles and storage/retrieval systems, and 600+ pieces of lift and transportation equipment, plus other industrial machinery. The Mechanical Engineering Department is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance and improvement of all industrial equipment and material handling equipment for Hobby Lobby Distribution.

The responsibilities of Hobby Lobby Mechanical Engineers include, but are not limited to:

• Procuring and analyzing data to recommend process improvements.
• Improving the safety and function of existing automated systems using industrial controls, software applications and mechanical design.
• Collaborating with Industrial Engineering, Software Engineering, and Warehouse Management to design material handling systems.
• Managing installation and commissioning of automated systems and equipment.
• Supporting maintenance managers and maintenance technicians.

Requirements / Qualifications

• PLC and other industrial application programming.
• Programming including Python, Java, SQL Server.
• SCADA systems such as Ignition or Kepware.
• Industrial networking design and troubleshooting.
• AutoCAD and other drafting tools for design of mechanical and control systems.
• Thorough documentation and technical writing.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Effective communication skills with co-workers, vendors and customers.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with multiple technical disciplines.
• Demonstrated adaptability to align personal goals with company objectives.
• Demonstrated passion and perseverance to meet long term goals.

Education and Experience

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, or Computer Engineering.
• At least 2 years working with industrial machinery.
• Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems and schematics.
