The General Services Agency (GSA) is comprised of Fleet Services, Facilities, Procurement, Special Services, Parks, Security, and Business Support and is responsible for a broad spectrum of services to all the County departments and agencies. It requires a very diverse workforce to accomplish the GSA mission of contributing to the quality of life in Ventura County by partnering with their customers to provide expertise and cost-effective service delivery, and foster the preservation of natural resources.
THE POSITION
Under immediate to general supervision, trains to, and provides a variety of custodial services within assigned areas of public buildings.
The ideal Custodian candidate will be reliable, have some prior custodial experience, exhibit a good attitude, and have the capability to learn more advanced custodial tasks. Prior experience in providing custodial services in a large campus-type facility, the ability to work independently, and the ability to accomplish assigned tasks efficiently with limited supervision are preferred.
Custodians work the night shift, 12:00 am to 8:30 am

NOTE: Custodian is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
Examples Of Duties
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Keeps assigned area clean, sanitize and aseptic by scouring, scrubbing, mopping, polishing, using germicides and wet dusting.
- Cleans, deodorizes, and disinfects lavatory floors, walls and fixtures.
- Dusts, cleans and polishes desks, equipment, cabinets, shelves and other furniture; dusts and washes light fixtures.
- Collects, stages material for recycling and disposes of trash.
- Replenishes lavatory supplies.
- Keeps workstation and equipment neat and clean.
- Sweeps, mops, strips, seals, waxes and buffs floors.
- Washes and cleans windows, blinds, windowsills, screens, and glass doors.
- Sweeps building entrance and sidewalks and other related duties.
- Vacuums and shampoos carpets and rugs.
- May operate special cleaning equipment and participate in major cleaning projects.
- May utilize software systems to maintain work records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
These are entrance requirements to the exam process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, And EXPERIENCE
No experience or training is required; however, applicants must demonstrate possession of the required knowledge and abilities.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid California driver license is required.
- Applicants must be willing and able to bend, reach, twist, push, pull, lift and carry items associated with the job duties described above.
- Applicants must be willing and able to participate in a detailed background investigation by the District Attorney's Office in order to obtain clearance to work in their facilities.
- Applicants will need to complete and submit a Sheriff's Office Security Clearance Request form post-offer as a requirement for assigned Sheriff facility access.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Working knowledge of: cleaning techniques, commercial cleaning procedures, cleansing agents, and the proper use of custodial equipment.
Some knowledge of: computers, and e-mail.
Ability to: learn more advanced custodial techniques; complete time records and work reports; understand and follow written and oral instructions.
