Overview

Lead Welding Superintendent role at Bechtel Corporation. Location: Thacker Pass, NV. Bechtel is an EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, responsible for managing and integrating a team of contractors engineering and building the facility.

Job Summary

The Lead Welding Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing welding operations across the Project. Supervises craft professionals and subordinate supervisors as assigned. Ensures construction performance follows specifications, schedules, and budgets. A flexible schedule may be required, including night, split, or day shifts. Field inspections are required, including walking on construction sites, climbing ladders/scaffolding, working on elevated platforms and in confined spaces. Use of PPE is required as applicable.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to the Welding department, including safety procedures and leading safety meetings.
  • Inspect site for unsafe conditions and take corrective action.
  • Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices with Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.
  • Champion the ZERO Accident Philosophy and ensure compliance with safety codes, requirements and standards within the area of responsibility.
  • Monitor craft activities for compliance with specifications and schedules.
  • Manage cost, schedule, and optimization of craft labor; maintain 90-day and 3-week look-ahead schedules for labor and equipment.
  • Interface with Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs.
  • Review craft time records using automated tools; review and approve subcontractor mobilization and demobilization.
  • Implement corporate project policies, procedures, and instructions within electrical operations.
  • Coordinate with the General Foreman to hire craft labor; align with area operational plans.
  • Provide input to quantity tracking and report weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.
  • Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Procurement.
  • Assist in performing construction testing as required; prepare reports and forecasts including progress, labor, and expenditures.
  • Plan manpower and equipment to execute the job; perform employee reviews and identify development opportunities for subordinate electrical personnel.
  • Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

PWHT Coordinator

  • 16 - 20 years of industry experience performing and implementing Post Weld Heat Treatment on large-scale projects.

NDE Level III

  • Associates degree in engineering/science from a 2-year technical college or university preferred plus 10 years’ experience or 15 years’ combined industry experience with NDE methods, writing procedures, and providing training.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field welding activities.
  • Extensive experience with SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Ability to develop 3-week look-ahead schedules related to crane operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams.
