Job Summary

Reporting to a Cleaning Services Manager, the Cleaning Services B performs a broad range of cleaning services to maintain the college campus or facility in a clean and orderly condition for effective use by students, faculty and the public. Maintains areas of buildings in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition. Provides information and assistance to students, faculty, and the public using campus facilities. This position is represented for purposes of collective bargaining by Teamsters.

Job Duties

• 75% - Dust mops and sweeps floors. Wet mops and polishes floors. Gather and dispose of rubbish, paper and debris; empties and washes refuse containers from interior and exterior locations. Service soap and paper dispensers and similar fixtures. Clean chalkboards, trays and erasers. May make up beds with linens. Maintains areas of buildings in a clean, safe and sanitary condition. Some direct supervision and direction required. Work effectively and harmoniously with college students, faculty, fellow employees and community members. (Essential)
• 10% - Vacuum and spot clean carpeting. Shampoo, clean and treat carpeting. Refunk refinishes and seals hardwood floors. Correct use of floor sealers, finishes and dressings. May operate equipment such as carts, scrubbing machines and extractor cleaners. Safe use of cleaning materials, machines, tools and power cleaning equipment. (Essential)
• 10% - Report problems, needed repair items or safety situations to Cleaning Services supervisor. Safely move, set up, adjust desks, tables, and other furniture and equipment. Lock and secure assigned areas. (Essential)
• 5% - Dust walls, desks, furniture, light fixtures, Venetian blinds, cabinets, ceilings, lockers, telephones, and other building accessories. (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate verbally and in writing in English.
• Some cleaning and/or maintenance experience.
• Demonstrated ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
• Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
• Strong commitment to a quality work product.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
• Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies. Ability to adapt to and perform work effectively in a high-volume, high-accountability, confidential environment with multiple and changing priorities.
• Effective organizational, logistical, time management and planning skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects and to fulfill functions in a timely manner.
• Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful completion of a Cleaning Services course.
• Six months of recent full-time cleaning service experience.

Salary and Benefits

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: The starting base hourly rate for this position is $19.20/hr. After 6 months, the base hourly rate increases to $19.60/hr, and after 12 months, the base hourly rate increases to $20.19/hr. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
