Job Title: Medical Director - Neonatology

This full-time Medical Director position provides an exciting opportunity to practice advanced neonatology medicine within a community-focused facility. Work alongside a dedicated group of neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners, contributing to high-quality patient care while enjoying the unique charm of small-town life in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert neonatal care at Carilion Clinic Children s Hospital and Lewis Gale Medical Center.
  • Manage and lead NICU operations, ensuring clinical excellence as either the Medical Director or Associate Medical Director.
  • Oversee advanced NICU services, including high-frequency ventilation, whole body cooling, and nitric oxide therapy.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary pediatric and maternal-fetal medicine subspecialists.
  • Support medical education by training Virginia Tech School of Medicine students and residents.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and participate in research projects.
  • Provide clinical coverage including day shifts and on-call commitments.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies and actively participate in leadership meetings and committees.
  • This position requires residency within the immediate local area; relocation may be necessary.
  • Accepting J1 visa candidates with sponsorship available.
Qualifications:
  • Board Eligible (within 5 years of residency) or Board Certified in Neonatology (REQUIRED).
  • Virginia medical license or willingness to obtain (REQUIRED).
  • Clean malpractice and medical license history (HIGHLY PREFERRED).
  • Experience in neonatal leadership roles for Medical Director position.
  • Willingness to relocate if not currently residing in the area (REQUIRED).
  • DEA must be obtained prior to start (REQUIRED).
License and Certification Requirements:
  • Board Certified (BC) or Board Eligible (BE) in Neonatology.
  • Virginia medical license or willingness to obtain.
  • DEA registration prior to starting.
