Overview
SQL Database and Backup Manager at Rheem Manufacturing. Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid). The role is responsible for the integrity, availability, and security of critical data across the enterprise, overseeing enterprise-wide backup, restore, and disaster recovery operations as well as SQL database administration. The position leads off-shore resource management, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and enforces best practices for data management. Responsibilities
SQL Database Administration: Design, develop, and implement SQL databases and related products on-premise and in cloud environments (focus on Azure). Manage, maintain, and upgrade the fleet of database systems across the enterprise, collaborating with cross-functional IT teams to keep databases and applications up-to-date on supported versions. Perform advanced database administration tasks, including performance tuning, capacity planning, and complex query optimization. Develop and enforce database security policies and procedures aligned with industry best practices. Regularly review and enhance disaster recovery plans for critical databases. Monitor database performance and capacity, identify bottlenecks, anticipate issues, and implement solutions. Lead a team of off-shore Database Administrators, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and performance management. Collaborate with global IT and business teams to align database and backup/restore operations with organizational goals. Global Backup/Restore & DR Leadership
Lead and manage the organization’s global system and data backup infrastructure, ensuring high availability, data integrity, and disaster recovery readiness across on-premise and cloud environments. Own daily global backup and restore operations, ensuring consistent execution, monitoring, and reporting. Develop standards for recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) based on application criticality and business risk. Perform monthly and yearly test cycles to validate the effectiveness of the backup and disaster recovery infrastructure. Develop runbooks and documentation for backup/recovery and disaster recovery exercises. Oversee and optimize utilization of off-shore backup engineers and other technical staff supporting enterprise backup operations. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Proven track record of managing off-shore teams and resources. 7+ years of experience managing global backup/recovery solutions. 3+ years of proven experience working in Azure cloud to deploy and manage databases and backup/recovery infrastructure. 7+ years of experience working as a Microsoft SQL Database Administrator. Strong understanding of database structures, principles, and best practices. Expertise in SQL Database Administration, including advanced troubleshooting and optimization. Expertise in database and backup/recovery related Azure Cloud infrastructure and platform services. Deep understanding of database architecture, data modeling, and performance tuning. Working knowledge of one or more programming languages (C#, Java, PHP, Ruby, Python, Terraform, etc.). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications
Certifications in Database Administration (e.g. Microsoft SQL, Postgres, MySQL, Oracle) or related fields. Azure certifications in Cloud administration, Azure architecture, cloud security, or similar. Experience in AWS Cloud, Oracle Cloud, or similar. Additional certifications (e.g., AWS Cloud, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Terraform, Ansible). Experience in a similar role in a large organization. About Us
