What You've Accomplished
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
Basic knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria
Basic communication skills to comprehend, follow direction and convey detailed technical data
Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships and work collaboratively within a team environment
Good problem identification and problem resolution skills
Exhibits questioning attitude and practices self-checking
Exposure to CAD modeling and computer programming skills

Collaborative problem-solving mindset, ability to break down complex mechanical analysis problems into discrete steps
Strong experience in Scripting Languages (Python, Bash) and LaTeX. Preference for experience with Scientific Python libraries (xarray, pandas, scipy, matplotlib), automated testing frameworks (pytest) and Python packaging (conda)
Experience with source control (git) and developing chained execution processes
Strong fundamentals in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics and/or dynamics. Experience in finite element analysis and/or computational fluid dynamics
Experience working in nuclear industry (or other similarly regulated industries)
Additional levels of experience may be considered for higher position levels

As a Scientific Computing Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Installed Base Business Unit. The Scientific Computing, Automation, and Development (SCAD) team supports engineering analysis for existing light water reactor fleet, advanced reactors, and small modular reactors.
Your work will include developing Safety Related software in Python for automation of engineering calculations in solid mechanics, thermal hydraulics, computational fluid dynamics and other engineering disciplines. You'll work directly with engineering teams to understand their calculation needs and define appropriate software scopes. This position will be relied upon to provide support and training to engineers to enable them to complete their work efficiently and with high quality.
This position requires occasional travel. Together we will enable clean, safe, and economical low-carbon energy to meet the global ambition for a better tomorrow.

Your Total Rewards Package The base salary range for the position is $65,000 - $84,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Base salary is a guideline and total compensation will vary based on qualifications, skill level, competencies and location.
