$110,000 - $120,000 Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and proactive

Database Administrator (DBA)

to manage, maintain, and secure our organization's database systems across both cloud and on-premises environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for database performance tuning, system integrity, user access management, backup strategies, and compliance with data security standards, particularly for sensitive or regulated industries such as healthcare or finance.

Responsibilities

Monitor, maintain, and optimize database performance to ensure speed, reliability, and data integrity.

Install, configure, and upgrade database software and supporting tools.

Implement robust backup and recovery procedures to minimize data loss and system downtime.

Perform regular database maintenance, including indexing, statistics updates, and storage optimization.

Design and maintain scalable and secure database architecture in cloud (AWS/Azure) and on-premise environments.

Lead root cause analysis of production issues and coordinate with engineering teams to resolve them efficiently.

Security, Access, and Compliance

Enforce database access controls by creating, managing, and auditing user accounts and permissions.

Apply malware protection and data security practices to prevent breaches and ensure HIPAA, SOC 2, or relevant compliance standards.

Protect confidential and regulated data through encryption, auditing, and ethical data handling practices.

Performance Optimization and Troubleshooting

Identify and resolve bottlenecks related to indexing, query execution, or server resource limitations.

Plan and forecast capacity requirements to support business growth and future scalability.

Utilize monitoring tools to proactively detect and resolve system anomalies.

Cloud and Infrastructure

Design and implement cloud-native and hybrid database solutions using AWS (e.g., RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora) and Azure technologies.

Collaborate with DevOps, Software Engineers, and Data Architects to ensure alignment across application infrastructure.

Recommend improvements for system reliability, availability, and cost efficiency.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, schemas, procedures, and system changes.

Produce regular reports on database usage, performance metrics, and security audit logs for internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills And Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

3+ years of experience in database administration or database engineering.

Strong proficiency in at least two of the following platforms: SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB.

In-depth knowledge of SQL, PL/pgSQL, T-SQL, and familiarity with schema design and normalization principles.

Experience in deploying, monitoring, and supporting cloud databases and hybrid infrastructures.

Familiarity with database security best practices, audit logging, and data encryption.

Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in layman's terms.

Preferred Qualifications

AWS Certified Database – Specialty or other cloud certifications (Azure, Google Cloud).

Experience working in highly regulated industries (e.g., manufacture, finance).

Exposure to DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines for database deployment and management.

Hands-on experience with ETL tools and data migration strategies.
