Overview
The Anaheim Police Department is currently accepting applications for a
Traffic Controller . Under moderate supervision, directs traffic at major events, issues parking citations, and impounds vehicles. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and reliable professional with a strong work ethic and proven experience in towing vehicles and conducting parking enforcement. They demonstrate excellent customer service skills, are highly analytical, extremely organized, and detail oriented. The candidate should possess strong written and verbal communication abilities, be capable of multi-tasking effectively, and thrive in a collaborative team environment. Distinguishing Characteristics
Employees in this class are distinguished from the Traffic Control Supervisor by the absence of responsibility for immediate supervision of Traffic Control Assistants. Employees in this class are distinguished from Traffic Control Assistants by assuming a broader scope of traffic control duties, such as responding to traffic related calls and dispatch requests; impounding vehicles and enforcing the vehicle abatement program. Responsibilities
Respond to dispatch requests related to illegally parked vehicles, traffic hazards and traffic accidents. Issue parking citations for illegally parked vehicles, abandoned vehicles at events in and around the facility; write police reports regarding vehicle impound incidents, surrounding traffic control at events, and traffic accidents. Enforce the Vehicle Abatement Program by impounding vehicles abandoned on public and private property; impound vehicles in excess of 72 hour violation and those contained on the habitual offenders list. Work with Traffic Engineering to resolve citizen complaints or to correct observed engineering deficiencies. Perform Traffic Control Assistant duties as required; train part time Traffic Control Assistants. Direct traffic on city streets during peak traffic conditions, such as Stadium, Convention Center, Arena, and other large events, or during signal outages and traffic accidents. As a crime prevention method, patrol parking lots during events. Act as the Traffic Control Supervisor as assigned. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Experience and Training
Some experience in traffic control. Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities are as follows: Knowledge of:
Safe traffic directing techniques; report writing techniques; and vehicle impounding procedures and techniques; employee training techniques and radio codes and etiquette. Ability to:
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; deal diplomatically with the public and other employees; exercise good judgment; provide effective training to new employees in the Traffic Control Section; write clear and legible parking citations related to parking violations and traffic reports related to minor traffic accidents that may occur at or in the vicinity of an event and vehicle impound activities; work in a team environment and function as a productive team member; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. License/Certification Required

Illegal use of anabolic steroids previous to three years of application. Illegal use of a hypodermic needle/ syringe. A bankruptcy within the past three years of date of application. More than one moving violation in the past 12 months, and/or three or more moving citations within the past three years, and/or five or more moving citations within the past five years of date of application.
