Our client is currently seeking a Non-QM Mortgage Underwriter We are seeking an experienced Non-QM Underwriter to join our growing team. This individual will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and rendering credit decisions on Non-Qualified Mortgage (Non-QM) loans in accordance with our credit policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, solutions-driven, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where Non-QM expertise and sound judgment are critical to serving a wide range of borrowers.
Responsibilities
Review and underwrite Non-QM loan applications, ensuring compliance with our company, investor, and regulatory guidelines. Analyze complex borrower profiles including self-employed income, bank statement programs, asset depletion, DSCR, and alternative documentation scenarios. Assess risk across income, credit, assets, and collateral, making timely and accurate underwriting decisions. Communicate conditions, stipulations, and loan decisions clearly with processors, loan officers, and third-party partners. Partner with internal teams to troubleshoot and structure challenging files while maintaining customer-first approach. Stay current on Non-QM program changes, market trends, and investor updates. Ensure loans meet all compliance, risk management, and quality standards set by us and applicable regulations. Contribute to our culture of speed, accountability, and service by supporting volume and turn-time expectations.
Qualifications
Minimum 3–5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, with at least 2 years focused on Non-QM loans. Strong knowledge of Non-QM loan programs: bank statement, asset depletion, DSCR, P&L, ITIN, jumbo, and other alternative income documentation. Proficient in DU/LP findings and Non-QM manual underwriting. Solid understanding of federal, state, and investor compliance/regulatory requirements. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex decisions. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Encompass LOS experience strongly preferred.
