Leveraged Finance Underwriter – Assistant Vice President. Leveraged Finance Underwriting (LFU) within Institutional Credit Management (ICM) seeks an Associate/Junior Underwriter to join the team. The Associate is an intermediate level professional that will work with the full team to lead and drive a best-in-class Leveraged Lending In-Business Credit organization with a goal of materially enhancing Citi’s end-to-end Leveraged Lending credit management process. This will be achieved through a strong partnership with Banking, Capital Markets and Risk Management. LFU Associates will be actively involved in Citi’s credit approval and origination process for leveraged finance transactions, assisting clients in raising funds in the capital markets, as well as providing ongoing oversight of Citi’s credit monitoring support for Citi’s Lending Finance Portfolio of client relationships. The Underwriters have a comprehensive understanding of the wide range of complex financial issues facing our clients and can provide Associates the opportunity to develop a sound foundation of credit and origination skills. This understanding allows us to effectively deliver innovative solutions to our clients as well as properly manage the credit exposure within Citi’s Leveraged Lending Portfolio. Responsibilities
Provide analytical support to Senior Underwriters and oversee Analysts team across LFU’s core functions: (1) Leveraged Finance transaction origination (LBO & Corporates) and credit approval; (2) periodic credit monitoring; (3) portfolio management and reporting, limits and early problem recognition; (4) global leveraged lending related projects and strategic initiatives Evaluate and gain a strong understanding of clients' business, financial performance and key credit drivers across various industries with the ability to raise issues and concerns as needed Analyze models used for valuation and to forecast the client's operating and financial performance and articulate assumptions and analysis to senior Business and Risk Demonstrate sound quality control over the materials and analysis utilized in transaction approval process, ensuring critical information that drives credit approval decisions is reviewed and presented appropriately Coordinate with Analysts and the LFU Mumbai Team to perform periodic written reviews of the clients' financial and operating performance Work with deal teams to assess risk and seek approval for and assist in executing transactions on behalf of clients Help manage Analyst pool, responsible for their credit training and mentoring throughout their tenure in the group Interact regularly with product partners in Capital Markets, Investment Banking, Corporate Banking and Risk, in addition to Legal counsel (internal and external) developing the ability to understand deal structures and ensure proper documentation and approvals per WCR Standards & Procedures Analyze underlying business rationale/strategy for deals and create business and portfolio reviews for Senior Management on global risks and market trends Research and develop understanding of key industry trends and risk issues and communicate succinctly to Risk Managers and Bankers Monitor news and events pertaining to Citi’s leveraged lending clients and provide regular updates to Senior Underwriters Qualifications
3-5 years of credit analysis, origination or corporate banking related experience Team player with strong work ethic who collaborates effectively at all levels Strong writing, analytical, quantitative communication, and presentation skills Leadership skills and experience in coaching and mentoring Analysts Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Financial modeling experience on the job Ability to break down large amounts of data into concise formats Ability to quickly and accurately find information upon a Banker/Manager’s request Ability to take on demanding responsibilities and work independently while juggling multiple tasks and deadlines Education
