Overview
Patent Agent/Associate with 2–10 years of experience for openings across the U.S. and internationally. Roles involve drafting, prosecution, and IP strategy in collaboration with senior attorneys, inventors, and R&D teams across tech fields. Responsibilities
Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications (utility, design; provisional where applicable) in relevant jurisdictions. Conduct prior art / patentability searches; analyze scientific / technical literature to assess novelty, inventive step, freedom-to-operate, and validity. Respond to patent office actions, objections, rejections; prepare arguments, amendments, appeals as needed. Work collaboratively with inventors / engineers / scientists to understand inventions and translate technical ideas into patentable claims. Assist in IP portfolio management: tracking deadlines, maintaining annuities / renewal schedules, coordinating filings across jurisdictions. Support strategic IP counseling: advising on filing strategy, infringement/risk issues, licensing, or other transactional aspects. Liaise with outside counsel, patent offices, and internal stakeholders. Keep abreast of changes in patent law / regulations / judicial decisions relevant to our tech areas. Qualifications
Required:
2–10 years of patent experience (drafting & prosecuting applications) either within a law firm, corporate IP department, or equivalent. Technical degree in a relevant field (e.g. engineering, computer science, life sciences, chemistry; fields may include mechanical, electrical, software, biotechnology, etc.). Advanced degree (MSc, PhD) is a plus when applicable. Excellent drafting skills: ability to write clear, precise claims, specifications, and legal arguments. Strong analytical, legal, and technical skills; ability to read & understand complex technical documents. Good communication (verbal and written) skills; able to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases/projects and meet deadlines. Familiarity with patent office procedures (e.g. USPTO, EPO, national offices) and tools / databases (prior art search / patent search tools). Preferred
Registration before relevant patent office(s) (e.g. USPTO, EPO) or qualification to practice. Experience in international filings / PCT / multi-jurisdiction prosecution. Background in AI/ML, semiconductors, biomedical devices, pharmaceuticals, software, or related tech domains. Experience with opinions (e.g. patentability, validity, infringement), licensing, or litigation support. Some mentoring or leadership experience is a plus. Seniority level
