Palo Alto Firewall Engineer
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and certified Palo Alto Firewall Engineer to manage, maintain, and optimize our network security infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in Palo Alto Networks platforms, focusing on policy creation, advanced troubleshooting, and upholding stringent security standards. This role requires continuous monitoring, prompt incident response, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure unified network integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Firewall Policy & Configuration Management
Design, implement, audit, and optimize complex firewall policies and rule sets to enhance network security and operational efficiency.
Ensure all firewall policies strictly comply with organizational security frameworks and regulatory requirements.
Manage configurations and maintain high availability for supported Palo Alto firewall models:
PA-850, PA-5220, and PA-3260 .
Network Operations & Troubleshooting
Proactively monitor network traffic and analyze firewall logs to detect, investigate, and respond to potential security incidents and anomalies.
Diagnose and rapidly resolve advanced firewall-related performance degradation, connectivity issues, and system failures.
Plan and execute firmware updates, patches, and software upgrades across the firewall fleet to maintain a secure and up-to-date infrastructure.
Security Strategy & Compliance
Act as a technical leader in integrating industry-standard security measures, including VPN configurations, into the network environment.
Stay current with emerging cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and the latest Palo Alto Networks best practices to inform security strategy.
Maintain comprehensive, accurate documentation of all firewall configurations, policies, and network security diagrams.
Collaboration & Incident Response
Collaborate effectively with Network Engineering, Systems Administration, and Security Operations teams to ensure a unified and holistic security posture.
Actively participate in security incident response activities, mitigating identified firewall-related breaches or vulnerabilities.
Provide mentorship, training, and knowledge transfer to internal team members regarding firewall technologies and best practices.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
Expert-level experience
in configuring, deploying, and managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls.
Strong practical understanding of core network security principles, practices, and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, VPN, routing).
Demonstrated experience with the following Palo Alto models:
PA-850, PA-5220, and PA-3260 .
Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on critical path resolution.
Preferred
Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
certification or equivalent advanced certification (Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator - PCNSA).
Experience with advanced Palo Alto features (e.g., WildFire, Threat Prevention, URL Filtering, GlobalProtect).
Proven ability to thrive and maintain technical focus in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and dynamic environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder collaboration.
