Responsibilities
The Category Manager – Direct Materials will partner with internal stakeholders in Projects, Operations and Pipeline teams to address direct material, rental equipment and fabricated equipment needs. In this senior individual contributor role, the Category Manager leads and sets sourcing and procurement strategies for a specific category of Company purchases. The Category Manager will generate requests for proposals, lead bid events, negotiate and execute strategic Frame Agreements and/or transactions agreements as needed to support project schedules and budgets. This position requires expert knowledge in a specific category of materials (e.g., electrical, mechanical, rotating, rental or piping/fabricated equipment), the procurement function, and familiarity with advanced contracting concepts, practices and procurement strategies. The Category Manager must apply this knowledge when reviewing requisitions to optimize cost, quality, and on-time completion. Lead development of procurement strategies for a category of direct material and advise on strategic direction to maximize value in support of business objectives. Apply advanced supply chain techniques to maximize value and ensure best practices are implemented. Issue and complete NDAs with potential bidders/vendors as required. Lead vendor pre-qualification, generate RFPs, develop and execute Frame Agreements, issue Purchase Orders, or author Complex Purchasing Contracts for direct materials. Facilitate pre-bid conferences, analyze vendor responses, evaluate offers, and recommend awards aligned with business needs. Negotiate advanced material terms, scopes of work, and pricing to protect the company from risks and liabilities. Draft, review, approve and negotiate contracts, amendments and extensions with support from Contract Administration, Risk Management and Legal. Apply business requirements in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Develop bid lists and bid packages based on vendor capabilities. Provide stakeholders with vendor recommendations based on proposal evaluations and bid analyses. Assist internal and external stakeholders to meet objectives of cost, quality, and schedule while maintaining positive relationships. Ensure all agreements and purchases comply with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. Coach and mentor others within the Supply Chain team. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or related field. 10+ years in a procurement, sourcing or supply chain role involving services or construction projects with complex civil, structural and mechanical scopes. Expertise in a specific category of direct material purchases (Electrical, Mechanical, Rotating, Rental or Fabricated Equipment). Excellent knowledge of sourcing, contracting, and procurement processes. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders and vendors. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to simplify complex concepts and present key details. Proficiency with MS Office, SAP and Coupa (or similar procurement/contract management systems) preferred. Comfort with a team environment and adapting to changing priorities. Demonstrated initiative, ownership of work, and strong attention to detail. Ability to prepare periodic procurement reports. Willing to report in-office daily; occasional nights and weekend work may be required. Valid driver’s license with driving record satisfactory to the company and insurers. Periodic travel to sites in Louisiana and/or to suppliers in various locations (domestic and international) will be required. Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) desired. Work Hours
