The individual will lead and manage the site Business Support team to ensure work aligns with business priorities and focuses on the support and delivery of Unitas projects. The Business Support Manager is responsible for the effective implementation and successful delivery of product changes, cost savings, customer launches, and capital expenditures for the site. The role champions process and people capability for launch excellence. The role influences site and business strategies through value-creating solutions that enhance site/business performance and participates in multiyear platform roadmaps and annual business plan development. The role serves as a conduit for delivering prioritized upstream projects and process/system improvements through risk and change management, preventive action, and continuous improvement, integrating these methodologies into daily site work. Functions as a member of the Site Leadership Team, with supervisory responsibility of product, process, technical, and/or engineering resources. Develops Business Support team members beyond current roles to enhance project delivery and results. Promotes, shepherds, facilitates, and is a Subject Matter Expert of the Unitas Portfolio & Project Management process and governance for the Site. Acts as the site interface for customer, supplier, and vendor visits. Has knowledge of the process and facility, and the plant’s capability as it relates to satisfying customer needs. The successful incumbent could grow into an Operations Leadership position in the future. Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership Team Member As a member of the DLT, assist the team in navigating obstacles; make policy and decisions; debate with the team; and provide perspectives openly and professionally. Manages assigned projects and participates on teams to meet the site’s safety, people, cost, productivity, operational success, and project effectiveness goals. Develops site Business Support objectives and metrics. Tracks and reports results and project status, integrating metrics with the Daily Management System (DMS). Business Support Team Leads product change, major capital projects (including equipment, facility, and utility), launch, and process improvement projects for the site. Coordinates changes related to projects and trials with Planning, Supply Chain, Operations, Reliability, and QA; includes other upstream development work to meet customer needs. Communicates and provides training to team and other departments to ensure understanding of changes and a smooth transition to receiving teams. Supports Operations in building process and product knowledge to improve quality, productivity, and worker skill-base. Ensures quality system procedures such as risk management, change management, launch readiness, document control, and qualification procedures are followed; reviews and facilitates aspects of these systems. Partners with customers and suppliers; participates in customer, supplier, and vendor meetings as needed. Budget & Capex Management Manages departmental budget. Ensures capital expenditures are within plan and budget; tracks commitments; initiates, justifies, approves, and closes appropriation requests; assists in preparing capex plans for future years based on site needs and Platform Roadmaps. Unitas Governance & Project Management Facilitates and governs the Unitas project management process for the Site. Ensures teams utilize project management techniques, the Unitas process, and Smartsheet tools to manage projects to on-time delivery, within budget, and with expected results. People Leader Builds an effective engineering organization. Challenges and develops team beyond current functional roles to build people capability. Manages time and attendance for direct reports. Prioritizes and assigns work in alignment with business priorities; allocates resources for new projects. Reviews performance for direct reports; provides regular coaching and feedback in accordance with the Domtar PMP process. Manages, develops, and motivates team, helping them pursue self-development opportunities. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Minimum of ten years of experience leading various operational disciplines in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated Profit/Loss responsibility and continuous improvement results Experience leading cross-functional departments and managing both salaried and hourly workforces Excellent leadership skills Strong administrative and management skills Experience in Lean Manufacturing with demonstrated use of tools and principles and quantifiable results Experience in a broader cross-division business unit model Preferred Qualifications Experience in related industry Master’s Degree Six Sigma Black Belt certification Lean Manufacturing certification Seniority level
