Overview

Associate Director of Development – Parent and Family Philanthropy is an integral member of the Parent and Family Philanthropy team in the Development and Alumni Relations division. The role supports execution and assessment of programming and events that drive parent philanthropy, including a Parents Council, and assists with briefing packets, internal collateral, and external communications. The position collaborates with the annual giving and stewardship teams to ensure execution of the parent strategy and manages a donor portfolio in Greater Houston with capacity to make annual gifts of $10,000–$100,000. The Associate Director is a fundraising generalist, soliciting and stewarding gifts benefiting Rice’s schools and programs within a collaborative team context. Responsibilities

Maintain a portfolio of gift prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with emphasis on leadership gifts and future $100,000+ gifts. Identify fundraising priorities and develop plans and strategies to achieve goals. Collaborate with development colleagues across schools, units, communications, events, stewardship, research, development services, alumni engagement, and annual giving teams to support fundraising initiatives. Support development-related communications, events, and the execution and ongoing assessment of departmental engagement strategies. Draft briefing packets and other internal collateral, as well as external communications. Work with internal partners to execute the parent philanthropy strategy and manage donor relationships. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree Three years of successful program management or equivalent experience and three years of professional fundraising experience with a demonstrated track record of soliciting, closing, and stewarding gifts of $10,000+ Skills

Experience developing and assessing donor programming Event planning and management experience Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong data analysis skills Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects Strong organizational and time management skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines Attention to detail and ability to track alumni/donor information and related projects Preferences

Five years of relevant experience and fundraising experience with higher education or nonprofit organizations Experience working on a capital campaign Familiarity with fundraising database software and CRMs Interest in Rice University’s mission and liberal arts focus Curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning Ability to innovate, exceed goals, and build consensus Essential Functions
