POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Director of Upstream Gas Supply to lead our natural gas procurement strategy and execution. This leader will be responsible for securing competitive and reliable natural gas supply for gas-fired generation assets, including gas peakers and combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) across ERCOT and PJM.
This role requires a deep understanding of upstream gas markets, contract structures, and supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will bring strong commercial acumen, a robust network of industry contacts across E&P and G&P suppliers, and the ability to guide long-term supply planning in alignment with business objectives.
Responsibilities
Lead strategic sourcing and procurement of natural gas to supply gas-fired generation assets in ERCOT and PJM.
Develop and manage relationships with major gas marketers, producers, and pipeline operators.
Negotiate and execute long-term gas supply agreements, pipeline transportation contracts, and storage arrangements.
Optimize gas purchasing via both long-term contracts and spot market trades at key trading hubs (e.g., Waha, Katy, Houston Ship Channel).
Evaluate supply options to maximize flexibility, cost competitiveness, and reliability.
Maintain up-to-date market intelligence and inform internal stakeholders of gas market dynamics and trends.
Collaborate with internal development, operations, and commercial teams to align supply with project and asset needs.
Build and lead a high-performing gas supply team as the portfolio grows.
Support commercial decisions through basic understanding of gas turbines, pipeline constraints, and natural gas processing.
Qualifications
Minimum 10+ years of experience in natural gas procurement or upstream gas supply, preferably with exposure to power generation assets.
Strong existing network of contacts in E&P and G&P markets, especially in ERCOT and PJM.
Proven track record of negotiating and executing complex commercial agreements with suppliers and marketers.
Familiarity with gas trading practices, pipeline transportation, and storage structures.
Strategic thinker with the ability to assess market opportunities and risks and develop multi-year procurement strategies.
Basic technical understanding of natural gas-fired turbines and gas infrastructure.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Prior leadership or team-building experience strongly preferred.
