Overview
Maintenance Director – Senior Living Community Wood River, IL The Maintenance Director provides direct leadership to the maintenance and housekeeping team, ensuring the facility, grounds, and building are safe, functional, and well-maintained. This role is hands-on, involving daily work in facility upkeep, sanitation, and environmental services to support a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors. Supervision Received
Reports directly to the Executive Director and contracted Plant Operations Manager. Responsibilities
Provide direct leadership to the maintenance and housekeeping team to maintain safety, cleanliness, and functionality of the facility, grounds, and building.
Perform hands-on facility upkeep, sanitation, and environmental services activities as needed.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans and respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner.
Coordinate with other departments to ensure a welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications
Healthcare maintenance/plant operations management experience
High School diploma or equivalent required
No convictions for abuse, neglect, mistreatment, or misappropriation of property
Prompt and reliable attendance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read, write, follow written/oral instructions, and perform basic calculations
Strong knowledge of sanitation, safety standards, and maintenance practices
Hands-on skills in general maintenance, housekeeping, and facility upkeep
Ability to manage, train, and lead maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry staff
Physical Requirements
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, reach, crouch, kneel, balance, push, pull, and lift heavy objects (75–100 lbs. as needed)
Work may involve unprotected heights, moving machinery, and driving equipment
Exposure to dust, fumes, gas, changing temperatures/humidity, and chemicals
Must be available for long hours and emergency call-ins
Working Conditions
Work environment may be hot, humid, noisy, or subject to interruptions
Frequent interaction with staff, visitors, and state personnel
Occasional exposure to emotionally upset or hostile individuals
Frequent changes between hot and cold work areas
Protective equipment and devices provided
