Job Description Location: New York, NY Associate Director, Food Culture & News Bon Appétit/Epicurious is seeking an Associate Director to help lead our Food Culture & News content vertical. This role will manage at least two direct reports; will be responsible for setting content strategy around their subject area, in collaboration with brand leadership; and will ensure that content is published on a regular basis that achieves the brands’ editorial and business goals. The ideal candidate is an exceptional team manager who can balance both the organizational needs of running a content vertical; while also setting and executing on a robust content strategy that provides timely, thoughtful insight and sophisticated analysis on food culture, news, and restaurants. Primary Responsibilities: Assist with leading the Food Culture, News, & Restaurants content vertical, including managing two or more direct reports; setting and executing on content strategy, in collaboration with brand leadership; managing editorial direction of projects and events; and assigning and editing a wide coverage beat for all platforms. Lead planning and execution for Food Culture/News/Restaurant tentpole moments and related live events, including Best New Restaurants. Manage Food Culture/News/Restaurant content for newsletters and other subscription products in concert with edit leadership, audience development, and consumer marketing. Cultivate relationships with and manage a diverse cohort of writers and editors. Collaborate with stakeholders across the brand, other Condé Nast departments, and up and down the masthead in content execution. Establish a robust content pipeline, enforce deadlines and workflows, and ensure the edit calendar has sufficient Food Culture/News/Restaurant coverage. Collaborate with edit leadership on long-term brand strategic planning and major initiatives. Write stories across platforms and content areas, as assigned. Participate in video, social video, podcasts, and special events, as assigned. Represent the brands in media and public appearances as necessary. You’ll need: 10 years writing, editing, and producing content at a major publication. Deep experience running a team of direct reports, overseeing their work, guiding their growth and performance, and ensuring deadlines and key objectives are met. Cross-functional collaboration skills with sales, audience, and production staff. Demonstrated expertise with national and international reporting on dining and foodways. Experience producing content within a multiplatform editorial strategy, including print, newsletters, video, and events. Strong editorial judgment, writing, and editing skills. Organized, detail-oriented, able to adhere to tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities and projects. Experience incorporating digital best practices including working in content management systems and SEO. Hosting and/or video production experience is a plus. The expected base salary range for this position is from $100,000-$148,000. What happens next?
