This is a clerical position for the Operating/Recovery Rooms Department. The candidate will learn the Operating Room Front Desk at Pavilion.

Responsibilities *
Oversee and perform CVC Front Desk Operating Room clerical tasks
Developing and maintaining collaborative and collegial interactions and relationships with patients/family members, caregivers, providers, staff and coworkers.
Review all surgical cases to ensure they have proper supply and preference lists. Coordinate corrections with the RN Leads for each surgical service.
Print DPCs for the next day, attaching appropriate SBARs and distribute to PTs
Run reports, verify information, investigate anomalies, and correct deficiencies.
Remain present at the desk to answer calls, walk in questions, receive and distribute tubed products, etc.
Schedule add-on/urgent cases
Accurately and completely fill out forms (call-ins, Schedule Change Log, etc.)
Coordinate updates and print supply requisitions
Professionally and courteously field and route all phone calls, greet and assist all that enter the OR Front Desk space
Update cases with Anesthesia/Floor Runner/Service Lead/Charge Nurse direction
Collaborate with Anesthesia to enter assignments for surgical procedures requiring anesthesia support (faculty, residents and CRNAs)
Get report from anesthesia floor runner (paging appropriate personnel of changes)
Print preliminary schedule at 11a and distribute to charge nurse and floor runner
Print CVC Instrument list and hang at FD window
With direction from the Charge Nurse review cases on the prelim schedule to ensure proper OR placement (open VS hybrid room)
Print final schedule for next day
Modify block times in ORMIS as directed in coordination with Colleen Flannigan
Utilize on-call schedule to call in any needed physicians, nursing staff, etc.
Ensure anesthesia is assigned to OR/EP cases
Log and send out specimens
Print labels, wristbands, etc.
AMION contact/resource
Perform billing functions as directed, including but not limited to organizing and ensuring appropriate transport (no tubing) of billing documentation
Notify vendors of case cancellations as appropriate
Send pacemakers w/labels for all cardiac rooms
Print personal calendars for managers as needed
Provide clerical support when needed
Adhere to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility and consistently shares information and resources with others
Train new team members
Maintain accurate training documentation and checklists
Cover other clerical staff in the department as possible
Other duties and projects as assigned
Required Qualifications *
High School Diploma
Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills
Good investigative skills and strong attention to detail
Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills
Self-directed and motivated
Prioritizes work and manages time
Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with members of the healthcare team
Ability to sit for long periods of time
Work well with minimal supervision
Excellent attendance record
Desired Qualifications *
Knowledge of hospital and surgical environment
Knowledge of scheduling in MiChart
Bachelor's Degree or comparable combination of experience and education
Work Schedule
Part time, 24hrs: Weekends (Saturday and Sunday 6a-6p).
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
