Overview
California Lutheran University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Psychology for our undergraduate program beginning in the fall of 2026. The position serves the undergraduate program and requires teaching, advising, and participation in department and university activities. The university seeks candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and success working in diverse, multi-cultural, and multi-racial communities. Responsibilities
Teach the designated undergraduate courses (3 per semester): Abnormal Psychology, Specialized Psychopathology, Psychological Assessments, Theories of Personality, Counseling-Related Capstones, and introductory courses in Statistics and Research Methods when available. Advise students and mentor undergraduate research projects; participate in department and university activities and committees; engage in scholarly activities and/or creative endeavors. Maintain an active research program involving undergraduate students; foster inclusive teaching practices and culturally responsive mentoring. Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, progress, and grades; provide timely feedback to student inquiries; deliver a course syllabus in the first week of each class; adhere to faculty responsibilities as outlined in the faculty handbook. Attend and participate in department, division, campus, and University meetings; collaborate with colleagues and external partners; evening and weekend hours may be required. Qualifications
Ph.D. (or Psy.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited institution, or an ABD with a set date for degree completion; ABD applicants will be considered at the rank of Lecturer. Evidence of teaching and/or research related to serving underrepresented and underserved populations; publication and/or conference presentation records preferred, especially with undergraduate collaborators. Strong knowledge of clinical or counseling psychology, statistics, quantitative methodology, and modern teaching practices; ability to engage undergraduates in research and teaching with diverse student populations. Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching Abnormal Psychology, Specialized Psychopathology, Psychological Assessments, Theories of Personality, and Capstone courses; ability to teach introductory Statistics and Research Methods. Proven or potential track record of facilitating undergraduate research and contributing to the university community. Licenses and Other Requirements
This position does not supervise graduate students; clinical licensure is not required. Physical Abilities & Working Environment
Standard indoor classroom environment; ability to operate a computer and office equipment; ability to work at a desk for extended periods; travel to various campus sites as needed. Hiring Range
