Job Description - Medical Interpreter - Spanish/English - Full time - On Site - DC (2500017Y)
Description
The Medical Interpreter will provide language interpretation services to patients, families, and staff in critical, acute, or chronic medical situations as needed. Services will be provided in person, telephonically, or via video remote to assist patients and families in their interactions throughout the hospital.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience (Required) Minimum Work Experience:
1 year experience as an interpreter in critical situations (Required) Required Skills/Knowledge:
Bilingual in English and target language, proficient in medical terminology Required Licenses and Certifications:
Pass Interpreter Skills Assessment or equivalent, 40-hour Medical Interpreter Training Course with proof of certification Functional Accountabilities Facilitate communication among patients, families, and staff Interpret accurately without omissions or additions Manage assignments independently Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries Respect all parties and abide by the Interpreter Code of Ethics Provide sight and document translation of patient-related materials Promote Appropriate Utilization of Interpretation Services Educate staff on interpreter use and available services Communicate effectively with staff about needs Collaborate with program staff to meet cultural and linguistic needs Advocate for patients and families to ensure continuity of care Contribute to a Well-Organized Program Coordinate interpretation assignments efficiently Maintain schedules and logs Document all assignments accurately Organizational Accountabilities Respond to customer needs and follow up Demonstrate teamwork and respectful communication Contribute to a positive work environment and process improvements Use resources efficiently and promote safety Location and Job Details Primary Location: District of Columbia-Washington Work Location: CN Hospital (Main Campus), 111 Michigan Avenue NW, Washington 20010 Position Status: Regular, Full-Time Shift: Variable Work Schedule: Variable Salary Range: $45,614.40 - $76,024 Children's National Hospital is an equal opportunity employer and maintains a drug-free workplace policy, including restrictions on recreational and medical marijuana use in accordance with local laws.
