Overview

The Assistant Boys Lacrosse Coach will help with the execution of the boys lacrosse program and initiatives that align diversity, equity and inclusion with the school’s Catholic identity, mission, Ignatian Spirituality, and commitments to celebrate, educate and advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion. The successful candidate should collaborate, partner, manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship. The role requires a bachelor’s degree and relevant coaching experience, and includes expectations to support all aspects of the Boys Lacrosse Program as directed by the head coach and Athletic Director in accordance with IHSA rules and Loyola Academy policies.

Responsibilities

Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in boys lacrosse.

Coordinate the development and promotion of the Loyola Academy Boys Lacrosse Program.

Develop and implement daily practice plans; attend practices and games (practices at Munz Campus in Glenview) and travel to away games by bus.

Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis; assess players’ skills and assign team positions; determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.

Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation; apply and enforce student discipline during contests, practices, and trips off school property; encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of participation at all times.

Take precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protection from hazing/bullying.

Represent Loyola Academy in admissions events (open house, sports nights, grade school lacrosse events) and promote the sport by communicating with news media, alumni groups, service clubs and other organizations at the school.

Communicate with parents/guardians regarding athletic performance as necessary; collaborate with the athletic training staff regarding player health and safety; maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance; perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or appropriate administrator.

Moderate physical activity; capable of handling objects up to 50 pounds and standing/walking more than four hours per day.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; 1–3+ years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.

Prior coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level; preferably someone who has been a head coach or varsity assistant coach.

Flexibility to work outside normal hours, including nights and weekends.

Pre-employment screening: criminal background check and drug testing.

Note: The position is a stipend coaching role for the 2026 Spring Season. The role reports to the Head Boys Lacrosse Coach and Athletic Director and requires adherence to IHSA rules and Loyola Academy policies.
