The Organization Maya empowers opportunity and justice-involved youth to transform the trajectory of their lives. We do this by engaging each of our scholars in a restorative, relevant school experience that prioritizes personalized academic support, well-being, and preparation for the post-Maya pathway of their choice. Site Descriptions New Beginnings Youth Development Center (NB) is the District of Columbia’s long-term detention center for male and female youth located in Laurel, MD. The Youth Services Center (YSC) is the District of Columbia’s detention center for male and female youth, responsible for the care and custody of young people placed in secure detention by court order from the DC Superior Court Family Court Division. Position Overview The Itinerant School Psychologist will work with students, teachers, and families to help our scholars achieve the highest academic, emotional, and behavioral success. This position will consist of conducting evaluations, including cognitive and academic achievement testing, and writing reports while identifying a diverse student population's developmental, learning, and behavioral needs. Responsibilities Conducts evaluations and re-evaluations for students as requested or warranted Articulates test results to families, school staff members, and other stakeholders in clear, understandable language, attending to cultural sensitivity Delivers group and individual therapy sessions as indicated on student IEPs as needed Makes recommendations for purchasing assessment materials to ensure that the psychologist is adequately equipped with state-of-the-art resources Keeps abreast of advances in diagnostic materials Maintains compliant IEPS, including contact logs, and reports progress accordingly to families and other stakeholders Acts as an interdisciplinary team member in the special education eligibility process, administering IQ, personality, and achievement tests Researches the effectiveness of academic programs and behavior management procedures and acquires new information about learning and behavior Consults with teachers, families, and school personnel about learning, social, and behavioral problems Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited school or university in educational, clinical, or school psychology, including 42 semester hours of graduate coursework and 500 hours of successful field experience in a school setting under the supervision of a certified school psychologist required Must be eligible to acquire or must possess DC certification as a psychologist A clinical and/or counseling background with experience in supervising others and program development (preferred) Experience working with opportunity or justice-involved youth (preferred) Salary and Benefits Maya Angelou Schools and See Forever Foundation salaries are comparable to those of other public charter schools in the District of Columbia area.
