Provide leadership, as directed by building principal, in providing for optimum custodial services in the building, including direction of the custodial staff and a share of custodial duties. The nature of this position is that of a working supervisor. Hours of work may be varied on night shift depending on availability and competency of custodian/fireman in the building. (Transition on a phased-in basis). Relation/Reporting

The Chief II Custodian shall have direct authority over all other custodians in the school. The Chief II Custodian is directly responsible to the Supervisor of Facilities, Point-of-Contact or the building principal or their designee. Qualifications

Physical ability to perform duties Neat and clean appearance Able to get along with adults and students Good moral character, honest, dependable and courteous Ability to read basic operating instructions, write reports and maintain written records Supervise the operation and maintenance of low pressure boilers and oil fired boilers Must hold a chief custodian certificate (120 hours), or must hold a custodian-fireman certificate (90 hours) and be in the process of obtaining the chief custodian certificate (120 hours) within the current fiscal year Prefer six (4) years of successful experience as a custodian/fireman and/or chief custodian or the equivalent in custodial and/or maintenance supervisory experience in other institutions or firms Ability to operate computerized energy management system Must have satisfactory evaluations, experience, attendance record and seniority Minimum lifting requirements – 50 pounds (with assistance) Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday Duties

Supervises and participates in the general cleaning of the school building. Requests and oversees maintenance needs of the building. Assists the building principal in the selection, assignment, and scheduling of the custodian staff. Directs the training and orientation of members of the custodial staff. Maintains the electrical, plumbing, and heating equipment in the school plant in good operating condition. Maintains grounds, lawns, and play equipment in safe and attractive condition. Assists in snow removal. Checks all fire and safety equipment in the school and reports all violations to the supervisor or principal. Establishes and supervises proper maintenance of vehicles or gasoline-powered equipment used within the building site. Checks school building as required on weekends and holidays as directed to observe proper operation of mechanical equipment and security of the building. Requisitions and receives supplies and equipment and maintains necessary inventories. Performs minor maintenance tasks as outlined in the position guide for custodian. Assumes responsibility for the general security of the building. Other related duties as assigned including, but not limited to, chief storekeeper. Starting Date
