We are seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Architect specializing in Cloud Orchestration and Data Workflow Automation. In this pivotal role, candidate will collaborate with a close-knit team of technologists to design, develop, and implement innovative solutions centered around Apache Airflow, hosted on the Astronomer platform. Candidate's expertise will enable rapid development of scalable, reliable, and maintainable data pipelines and orchestration solutions that drive our data initiatives forward. As a trusted advisor, candidate will guide teams across the organization in their Airflow adoption journey, champion best practices, and help unlock the full potential of cloud-native orchestration technologies. Strategic insights and technical leadership will shape the future state of our data architecture, ensuring high-performance workflows, seamless integrations, and operational excellence. Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deliver end-to-end data workflows where Apache Airflow is at the core, aligning with business needs and technical requirements for rapid solution deployment. Mentor and collaborate with a small team of engineers and domain experts on Airflow best practices, use case identification, and onboarding processes across various teams. Review, tune, and optimize data ingestion and extraction pipelines orchestrated by Airflow to ensure efficiency, reliability, and scalability. Architect and implement frameworks and templates to streamline the management of numerous pipelines across multiple domains, promoting reuse and standardization. Develop detailed architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, and operational documentation—covering physical, logical, and implementation layers—to facilitate understanding and sustainability. Build and showcase reference implementations for data pipeline creation, new Airflow feature adoption, and integration with third-party tools and platforms. Keep abreast of the latest features in Astronomer, Apache Airflow, and related ecosystem tools to advise on impactful improvements and innovations. Collaborate across teams to develop reusable assets, automation tools, and document best practices to elevate overall workflow quality and efficiency. Interact with product owners, data engineers, and domain teams to gather feedback, translate requirements, and optimize the utilization of Airflow and Astronomer. Assist teams in maximizing value from their Airflow and Astronomer deployments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational standards Requirements
Proven experience deploying and managing Apache Airflow in production environments, with a focus on scalable, reliable pipelines. Strong background in designing and implementing complex ETL workflows, Data Warehousing solutions, and ML/AI data pipelines. Expert proficiency in Python for pipeline development and custom operator creation. Solid understanding of cloud-native data architectures, especially within Azure environment. Prior experience migrating workflows from legacy schedulers (e.g., Tidal) to Apache Airflow. Hands-on experience integrating Airflow with other data tools such as Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, Databricks, and third-party APIs. Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration technologies. Expertise with SQL development and data modeling. Knowledge of Kubernetes deployment—on-premise or cloud. Strong communication skills—able to convey complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. Demonstrable technical leadership and the ability to guide cross-functional teams. Experience working in regulated enterprise environments with high standards for compliance and data governance. Willingness to continuously learn emerging technologies and contribute to innovative solutions. Preferred, but not required
Azure Data Factory and other cloud-native data pipeline tools. Experience with data security, compliance, and governance frameworks. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or ARM templates. Certifications or recognition in Cloud, Data Engineering, or DevOps disciplines We offer
