Vast is looking for an Environmental Health & Safety Manager, reporting to the Sr. Manager Environmental Health & Safety, to support the development of the systems required for the design and build of artificial-gravity, human-rated space stations. This is a full-time, exempt position located in Long Beach, with some travel to Hawthorne and Mojave Test Sites. Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall management of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs company-wide. Manage day-to-day EHS operations, including scheduling tasks via JIRA helpdesk, coverage for hazardous operations, and ad-hoc projects. Provide direct supervision and manage performance of EHS Engineers and Specialists. Apply knowledge of environmental, health & safety regulations to evaluate facility projects, process changes, and assist teammates in defining compliance requirements for processes and equipment. Interface with federal, state, and local regulators to resolve compliance issues; support regulatory audits, openings, closings, and walkthroughs. Interface with vendors, consultants, and contractors regarding various initiatives and programs. Participate in investigations of industrial accidents and injuries to determine root cause and preventive measures. Manage the Safety Management System, including safety audits to identify workplace hazards, engineering controls, and best management practices; track KPIs to identify trends across the company. Review and interpret new and proposed environmental or safety laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering; Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline. 5+ years of industry experience and 2+ years of management experience. Preferred Skills & Experience

Strong knowledge and experience interpreting, applying, and documenting federal, state, and local environmental, health & safety regulations. Experience with US EPA, California Air Resources Board, and local California air district regulations, permits, and CEQA guidelines. Hands-on involvement with emergency response teams for incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases. Proven ability to develop and implement health and safety plans and policies. Detail-oriented with experience working cross-functionally and with external customers. Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Google Workspace. Commitment to hands-on work and meticulous attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities with minimal supervision. Strong organizational and communication skills; self-starter in a fast-changing, high-stakes environment. Ability to earn trust and maintain positive, professional relationships; contribute to an inclusive culture. Additional Requirements

Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted. Travel up to 15% of the time between Long Beach, Hawthorne, and Mojave campuses. Ability to stand for extended periods during facility inspections and wear required PPE (respirators, safety toe shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses). Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas as part of routine safety audits. Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range for Environmental Health & Safety Manager: $122,300 - $172,480. Salary is California-based. Base salary varies with knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand.
