The Director of Faculty Affairs and Academic Operations provides strategic leadership and oversight for faculty affairs and academic operations at the Yale School of Nursing. The Director manages all administrative aspects of the faculty lifecycle and leads efforts to ensure academic policy compliance and operational excellence. This role includes direct supervision of the Sr. AA for Faculty Affairs, the Associate Director of Student Academic Success. The Director serves as a key liaison among faculty, academic leadership, student services, Yale University central offices, and external accrediting bodies, ensuring institutional alignment, compliance with accreditation standards, and advancement of academic policies and initiatives. Faculty Affairs (75%)

Oversee all administrative aspects of the faculty lifecycle, including searches, recruitment, onboarding, development, reappointment, promotion, leaves, retirements, and departures for all ladder, non-ladder, and research faculty appointments. Review reappointment, promotion, and tenure case files for procedural consistency, legal compliance, and timeliness. Lead faculty development initiatives, fostering a culture of academic excellence through faculty retreats, workshops, and training programs. Serve as the institutional expert on recruitment and appointments processes for all faculty types (ladder, non-ladder, voluntary, visiting). Develop and coordinate new faculty orientation programs and manage faculty relocation processes. Advise faculty and staff on medical, administrative, disability, and caregiver leave policies; liaise with appropriate Yale offices as needed. Lead quality improvement initiatives to optimize faculty affairs and academic operations processes. Serve as the Visa Specialist for faculty and trainees, ensuring compliance with University and federal immigration regulations, and liaising with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS). Maintain and promote faculty resource guides and centralized administrative tools. Collaborate with Program Chairs and Division Chairs to ensure alignment between faculty hiring and curricular needs. Manage appointment processes for visiting, emeritus, and courtesy faculty. Oversee faculty data management, including credentialing, training compliance, license verifications, board certifications, conflict of interest disclosures, and leave tracking. Partner with the Communications Office to maintain up-to-date faculty profiles on the YSN website. Implement and update YSN-specific faculty policies, including sections of the Faculty Handbook, in collaboration with the Dean’s Office, Provost’s Office, and the Office of General Counsel. Provide strategic oversight and leadership for the Associate Director of Academic Operations, ensuring alignment of academic operational processes with institutional priorities and accreditation standards. Review and approve institutional responses to internal audits, accreditation reviews, and external evaluations related to academic compliance and student success. Ensure that responses reflect accurate data, policy adherence, and strategic positioning. Guide the development and implementation of academic monitoring systems in collaboration with the Director, ensuring robust data tracking of student outcomes, remediation patterns, and progression benchmarks. Facilitate cross-unit collaboration by overseeing the Director’s coordination with Student Services, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Program Chairs to implement institution-wide strategies aimed at improving student academic performance and persistence. Ensure that academic operational processes under the Director’s purview are regularly evaluated for efficiency, compliance, and effectiveness, and support the Director in identifying opportunities for continuous quality improvement. Mentor and support the Director in translating academic policy and institutional goals into streamlined procedures and workflows that promote excellence in academic delivery and student support. Required Skills and Abilities

5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in faculty affairs, academic administration, or higher education leadership. Deep understanding of faculty personnel processes, policy governance, and academic compliance requirements. Demonstrated experience supervising professional administrative staff and managing complex academic operations. Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and project management skills. Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in faculty and academic affairs. Proven experience with MOU development and coordination with general counsel highly desirable. Preferred Skills and Abilities

Proven experience working within a nursing, health sciences, or professional graduate school setting. Knowledge of Yale University administrative structures and the Faculty Handbook. Proven experience in developing and implementing standardized operating procedures (SOPs). Proven experience supporting accreditation reviews and academic compliance reporting. Master’s degree. Principal Responsibilities

Oversees all administrative aspects of the faculty life cycle including faculty searches, recruitment, retention, on-boarding, development, review, promotion, leaves, retirements, and departures for all ladder, non-ladder and research appointments per the Yale University Faculty Handbook (School of Nursing). Reviews all reappointment, promotion and tenure case files for current and prospective ladder faculty, ensuring procedural consistency, timely and legal compliance. Serves as the expert regarding the Recruitment and Appointments & Promotions (A&P) process for faculty at all levels including ladder, non-ladder, training, voluntary, and visiting. Oversees the recruitment and onboarding of faculty, including the development and coordination of new faculty orientation, relocation efforts, and additional administrative processes. Serves as strategic partner, ensuring that YSN stays current with market demands for recruitment and retention of Nursing Faculty. Serves as point of contact for faculty and staff regarding medical, administrative, child rearing, disability, and caregiver leaves. Communicates processes, policies, and eligibility with the Division Chairs, Specialty Directors, and Department Business Operations. Refers faculty and staff to Yale Offices as appropriate. Conceptualizes and participates in business process re-design and other quality improvement initiatives for the designated programs; facilitates implementation of approved modifications to ensure optimal use of organizational resources. Visa Specialist: Oversees the increasingly complex coordination of visa requirements for faculty and trainees. Ensures compliance with University and federal rules and regulations. Provides advice to OAPD staff and foreign scholars as needed. Serves as a point of contact with Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS). Maintains an updated version of faculty resources and promotes their functionality to faculty. Serves as primary liaison between the faculty search committee and the appointed division chairs to facilitate alignment between curricular needs and hiring efforts. Works closely with YSN Division leadership and staff to ensure appropriate onboarding and offboarding of faculty. Oversees office staff, ensuring adequate coverage and organizational effectiveness. Manages visiting faculty, emeritus faculty, and courtesy faculty appointment process. Oversees the processes for the collection of faculty data, including activities, publications, CVs and credentialing, and leave requests; manages processes for compliance requirements such as trainings, registered nurse licenses and board certifications, conflict of interests, and other required documentation. Collaborates with the YSN Communications Office on faculty information for the YSN website and directory. Implements the creation, revision, approval and application of faculty policies and procedures, including the YSN portions of the Faculty Handbook. Works with YSN Sr. Leadership to propose new or revised policies and liaises with YSN Committees and Provost’s Office and the Office of General Counsel for execution. Communicates policies and their interpretation to faculty and staff. Serves as primary liaison between YSN Business Operations, Research Administration, Institutional Research, Development, Student Affairs as well as Yale’s Faculty Administrative Services, Office of General Counsel and the Provost’s Office to ensure a holistic approach to institutional policies and goals. Manages faculty affairs staff. Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of eight years of higher education experience working with faculty and university administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Education and Experience Graduate degree in nursing, higher education, or related field. Background Check Requirements
