Indiana University School of Nursing (IUSON) is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Department Chair, Indianapolis campus. This is an outstanding opportunity to be a part of a legacy of nursing excellence and leadership. The Department Chair is responsible for the operational success of a Department on the Indianapolis campus within the IUSON core and reports to the Associate Dean, Indianapolis. This is a 12-month appointment with a workload distribution of 60% administrative, 20% research or scholarly activities, 10% teaching, and 10% service. Responsibilities
Serve as the operational leader for the department on the appointed campus, aligning efforts with the School of Nursing’s mission and strategic priorities. Implement programs to recruit, orient, retain, mentor, and ensure the success of faculty to fulfill teaching, research, and service missions. Balance faculty workloads across full-time, part-time, and adjunct appointments, and across different tracks and ranks. Ensure faculty meet expectations for course materials, delivery, research or scholarship productivity, and service at internal and external levels. Assist faculty in contributing to department, campus, and core strategic goals. Monitor and evaluate faculty performance for annual reviews and promotion and tenure processes. Provide coaching for faculty facing emergent teaching and professional issues. Coordinate department activities to support the School of Nursing’s mission and collaborate with other academic administrators. Prepare reports related to departmental responsibilities and provide input on resource needs. Represent the department within the School of Nursing, campus, university, and to external constituents. Ensure accountability for departmental faculty performance metrics related to teaching, research, and service. Basic Qualifications
Earned doctorate; nursing major preferred (e.g., PhD, DNP). Master’s in nursing if the doctorate is not in nursing (e.g., EdD). Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a registered nurse in Indiana. Eligible for appointment at or above the rank of faculty who will be supervised. Demonstrated experience in an academic environment. How to Apply / Contact
