Under supervision, the Marriage and Family Therapist I (pre-licensed) provides counseling, psychotherapy, case management, and treatment services in a counseling center, clinic, or institutional setting.

This posting aims to fill vacant positions across the following classifications: Marriage and Family Therapist I (associate), Marriage and Family Therapist II (licensed), Psychiatric Social Worker I (associate), or Psychiatric Social Worker II (licensed).

Custody Health Services (CHS) provides medical, mental health, and dental services to patients in custody at the 3 County Jail facilities: Main Jail, Elmwood, and Juvenile Detention facilities. CHS offers on-site routine and urgent/emergent medical services at Main Jail and Elmwood. The health care includes treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, preventative, and specialty care. CHS also operates a 39-bed acute psychiatric inpatient unit at Main Jail for stabilization. Juvenile Custody Health provides medical, mental health, and dental services to justice-involved youth in Juvenile Hall and James Ranch.

Selected candidates must be able to work in a secured facility, which requires passing a background check for security clearance.

Hired candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000.

Sign Up Employees in this role perform duties such as: Providing intensive counseling, psychotherapy, case management, and treatment services; Participating in evaluations and treatment planning; Potentially engaging in group therapy; Collaborating with staff and community agencies; Working with psychiatric teams; Explaining social and emotional factors related to illness; Evaluating new techniques; Referring patients to community resources; Possibly serving as a Disaster Service Worker; Performing other related duties. Sufficient education, training, and experience, including a Master’s Degree qualifying for licensure, are required.

Special Requirements

Current registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor; Compliance with California licensure requirements; Credentialing prior to appointment may be required; Ability to travel; valid California driver’s license and county driver authorization required; Disaster Service Worker (DSW) designation and training compliance. Knowledge of : Theory and practice of mental health and substance use interventions; Community resources; Impact of illnesses on personality; English language skills; Computer systems. Ability to : Apply mental health theories and practices; Conduct differential diagnosis; Develop counseling programs; Use psychiatric consultation effectively; Communicate effectively with diverse populations; Establish effective working relationships.
