The research in the Mendelowitz lab focuses on the parasympathetic control of the heart, how cardioprotective parasympathetic activity diminishes in various diseases, and aims to identify targets to restore cardiac vagal activity and alleviate cardiovascular risks. Approaches include patch clamp electrophysiology, viral transfection of optogenetic tools, confocal imaging, and in-vivo telemetry recordings.
This Senior Research Assistant position carries out research and development activities by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting, under general guidance from the Principal Investigator. Duties require creativity and a degree of latitude.
Responsibilities
Making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results.
Compiles results and prepares technical reports and documentation of outcomes.
Maintaining familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Animal surgeries and husbandry to create and sustain animals that model heart failure, implanting telemetry devices to record cardiovascular parameters, patch clamp electrophysiological methods to record synaptic activity in cardiac vagal neurons in both sham and disease animals.
Maintaining and using engineered CHO cells that serve as biosensor "sniffer" cells to quantify oxytocin presence using calcium-sensitive indicators with confocal imaging.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Hiring Range $18.06 - $33.02
