Overview
The Media School at Indiana University, Bloomington, seeks applications for a tenure-track, open rank position in Media Management, Law, and Policy. The school embraces media broadly, including production, journalism, telecommunications, sports media, videogames, AI, digital innovation and business, and critical studies. The successful candidate will research cutting-edge economics, management, law, and/or policy issues within these realms. Scholars with a focus on international/comparative issues are of particular interest.
The new faculty member will teach a 2-2 course load in the Media Management, Law, and Policy BA curriculum as well as in the core curriculum. The faculty should have an interest in taking an active role in the Center for International Media Law and Policy Studies, which researches the legal protection of media rights in Indiana, the United States, and the world.
Responsibilities and Expectations Responsibilities include:
Engaging in scholarly research in areas related to media management, law, and policy.
Teaching a 2-2 course load in the BA program and core curriculum.
Contributing to the Center for International Media Law and Policy Studies and related activities.
About the School The Media School combines a long-standing tradition of excellence in journalism, film, gaming, and communications with a commitment to digital and interactive media studies. It fosters a multidisciplinary approach to education and research, equipping students with the theoretical and practical tools necessary to lead and innovate in the media landscape of tomorrow. The school hosts centers including the Center for Documentary Research and Practice, the Center for International Media Law and Policy Studies, the Institute for Communication Research, the Michael I. Arnolt Center for Investigative Journalism, the National Sports Journalism Center, the Observatory on Social Media, and the Black Film Center & Archive. It serves more than 2,100 undergraduate majors across four degree programs (Journalism, Media, Game Design, and Cinematic Arts) with 11 concentrations and offers graduate degrees (M.A., M.S., and Ph.D.) to approximately 75 graduate students. Facilities support television, film and audio production, game design, and communication research. The school comprises about 70 faculty members and 50 staff members. Areas of current focus include media management, media psychology, advertising analytics, environmental communication, political communication, journalism studies, health communication, communication technology, children and media, game studies, public relations, and visual communication.

Basic Qualifications Academic qualifications include:
a JD with a Ph.D. in any field, or
an SJD/Ph.D. in law (for non-US universities),
Ph.D. in Media/Communication, Economics, or related fields.
For senior candidates, industry experience is preferred.
