Charter Manufacturing is seeking an Energy Manager to lead our strategic energy initiatives and drive sustainable change across our manufacturing operations. In this role, you will promote energy efficiency, oversee our ISO 50001 Energy Management System and lead key projects that optimize energy performance, ensuring sustainability, cost-efficiency and compliance. The Energy Manager will partner with operations, maintenance, procurement and engineering to identify and implement strategies that drive measurable energy and cost savings, leading energy teams across facilities and embedding energy efficiency into day-to-day operations, capital investments and long-term sustainability goals. Hybrid position located in Mequon, WI area 4 days a week. Must be open to travel across Charter’s facilities. Key Responsibilities

Energy Management System: Serve as the Management Representative for ISO 50001, leading all aspects of the Energy Management System (EnMS). Develop and maintain energy performance indicators (EnPIs), baselines, and improvement targets in alignment with operational goals. Energy Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor and analyze energy metrics across facilities and identify and prioritize areas for improvement. Oversee the integration of energy monitoring software and dashboards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure energy management goals are integrated into other organizational processes. Energy Audits and Analysis

Coordinate and technically review site-wide energy audits and assessments of industrial systems such as process heating, compressed air, industrial ventilation, pumps and fans, among others. Develop tailored energy management strategies based on audit findings, data trends and organizational goals. Collaborate with engineering teams to develop capital projects and perform technical due diligence on proposed energy conservation measures to support the company goals and objectives. Energy Cost Management

Assist the financial team in budgeting for plant energy costs and measurement & verification (M&V) strategies for validation of energy savings post-implementation. Interface with utilities on tariffs, demand response, reliability programs, and renewable integration options. Coordinate internal efforts to support the success of those programs. Collaborate with the energy procurement team during contract negotiation with energy suppliers. Promote synergy between cost reductions and energy improvements. Training and Awareness

Manage, coach, and lead a multidisciplinary energy team, providing direction, support, and professional development. Promote an energy efficiency culture within the organization by building support at all levels for energy initiatives and goals through program communications and training. Stay informed on emerging technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory changes in energy management. Stakeholder Engagement

Work closely with plant management to align energy management goals with organizational objectives. Lead site energy teams to standardize practices, share best practices, and support consistent execution of energy initiatives. Collaborate with external partners, such as energy suppliers, consultants, and contractors, to improve energy performance. Compliance and Reporting

Work with state and federal agencies to maximize training and resources available to improve energy efficiency. Follow Environmental, Quality and Safety Management System procedures and requirements. Ability to meet the essential job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as outlined in the job description. What You’ll Need

Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy engineering or related field. Certified Energy Manager certification is required. Seven years’ experience working on energy projects (industrial environment preferred). Experience in administering ISO 50001 Energy Management system. Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical industrial systems, such as: Thermal Processes, Compressed Air, Dust Collection, Air Make-up units, Pumps and Fans. Ability to understand/read engineering drawings and process diagrams. Ability to provide team leadership. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills in engaging with others, learning their area of business, and influencing behaviors to create a culture of compliance. Applicant should have strong writing skills and be comfortable with public speaking. Project Management skills in leading large multiple discipline projects. Analytical skills in analyzing data and providing solutions. Demonstrated critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Proficient in the advanced features of Microsoft Office products. Nice to Have

Masters Degree in Engineering or related field. 7–10 years’ experience (heavy industrial preferred). Strong energy data analytics and audit skills. Multi-site or regional experience highly valued. Prior experience in Continuous Improvement and/or Six Sigma projects. Experience with steel mill operations and maintenance. Skilled in a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Benefits
