Position Position: Chemical/Environmental Senior Applications Engineer
Location: Remote - Western US

Hours of Work Full-time position with hours Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00 PM
Responsibilities
Provides lead technical support for the sale of carbon, equipment, and service in domestic or international markets; interfaces with Equipment Engineering, R&D, Equipment and Assembly, Product Management, and Sales to justify the use of activated carbon technology in customer applications.
Assists in the technical development of emerging markets/applications within their focus area; provides lead technical and business support for key global business development groups; may supervise entry or intermediate applications engineers.
Uses technical expertise, models, and data to select appropriate carbon and equipment for liquid and vapor phase applications and predict performance under customer conditions.
Sets up and monitors pilot trials in the field and provides design information for future full-scale systems.
Interprets data from the lab and field trials to provide technical design and operational recommendations.
Troubleshoots customer problems such as short filter run-times or unexpected breakthrough.
Provides application engineering support for geographic regions or Technical Sales Reps; collaborates with R&D on development/testing of new carbon products/applications.
Provides technical guidance to engineers with less experience and to overseas colleagues when called upon.
Prepares and provides technical training for TSRs on new topics, applications, etc.; ensures consistency of technical messages to customers.
In coordination with the Technical Director, Market Development Director, and Sales Director, develops strategies and market-specific approaches to expand existing base business and develop new opportunities through CCC technology adoption.
Regularly reviews results, troubleshoots variances, and adjusts strategy as appropriate; provides technical lead for the Business Unit on CCC global initiatives and cross-business segment groups.
Works closely with other CCC global regions on projects spanning multiple geographic territories.
Acts as technical support and back-up contact related to specific projects for Sales; serves as liaison between Sales and internal support teams (Product and Project Management).
Reviews bid specifications for clarity, accuracy, and acceptance; provides recommendations to improve technical quality and reduce risk; serves as main Calgon Carbon contact when the Technical Sales Rep is unavailable.
Participates in industry forums related to emerging markets and existing applications; attends technical conferences and trade shows to gain knowledge and represent Calgon Carbon as a leader in the activated carbon market.
Prepares and presents papers/posters at conferences, trade shows, and virtual opportunities (e.g., webinars); develops and presents technical presentations/training to engineering consultants, clients, regulators, and others to influence selection of treatment solutions.
Attendance at conferences as lead technical personnel.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or equivalent (Chemical Engineering or related engineering/chemistry field) is required.
10+ years of experience in the application of carbon adsorption technology to address customer requirements in liquid and gas purification, including carbon modeling, equipment design and development, and equipment functionality.
5-7 years of experience in the use and troubleshooting of adsorption equipment at customer sites.
Experience with business/marketing is preferred.
