Overview

As a member of the Technical Operations team, the Senior Systems Engineer is a role that requires hands-on expertise, independent action and active mentorship. This role reports to the Assistant Infrastructure Manager and provides tactical guidance for the design, implementation, enhancement and maintenance of all compute, storage and backup environments at OnPoint Community Credit Union. This means ensuring high availability, performance, and security for IT infrastructure while proactively monitoring system performance, recommending improvements and troubleshooting issues that arise. Additionally, the Senior Systems Engineer will lead and/or participate in projects related to system implementations, upgrades and migrations involving one or more teams.

Responsibilities

Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for technical issues and challenges.

Contribute to and enforce best practices for system security, performance, and reliability.

Perform a number of business-critical technical functions including but not limited to: Windows server administration, Data Center maintenance and management, configuration and management of observability tools, patching and vulnerability management, incident response and resolution, documentation and reporting, and security compliance.

Actively recommend, design and implement enhancements to current tools and technologies.

Coordinate, collaborate and execute on projects within the Infrastructure Systems domain and which may require an in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards.

Mentor and coach junior and mid-level team members, fostering their professional growth and development.

Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for adoption based on business needs and industry trends.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

Expert-level knowledge of Windows operating system, with bonus points for Linux as well.

Strong experience with enterprise-level infrastructure technologies, including virtualization, storage, and networking.

Strong experience implementing solutions that support High Availability, Data Center Resiliency, and Business Continuity.

Familiarity with the following tools and technologies strongly preferred: Windows Server, Azure, Exchange/M365, Cohesity, PureStorage, VMware ESXi, LogicMonitor, Ivanti Service Manager

Proven track record of leading complex IT projects from conception to completion.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Will accept equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.

5+ years of experience in systems administration roles, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership position.

Relevant certifications such as MCSE, VCP, CompTIA Security+, etc. are desired.
