Wake County The Wake County Child Support Office is seeking an experienced attorney with a background in general civil practice to serve as an Assistant County Attorney. This position is based in the Child Support Office and reports directly to the Social Services Child Support Assistant Division Director. The primary responsibility is to provide superior and efficient legal representation for the Child Support Office, as assigned by the Assistant Division Director. Core duties include representing the office in District Court for child support litigation; applying the rules of civil procedure; and demonstrating extensive knowledge of collateral areas of law impacting the establishment, enforcement, and modification of child support, including custody/visitation, family law, divorce, and related procedural rules. Essential Functions Provide legal representation for the Department of Social Services in all aspects of Child Support law and legal proceedings including preparation of documents and pleadings, performing all necessary pretrial phase activities (including interviewing fact witnesses and conducting appropriate discovery) as well as appearing as counsel for the Department in hearings and trials. Work with Child Support Case Agents to prepare cases for trial and represent the agency in District Court. Adhere to deadlines set by statute, following deadlines to settle child support matters via negotiation and consent, or from the filing of legal pleadings for Court adjudication and disposition. Demonstrate proficiency in client relations and public engagement, ensuring superior and efficient legal representation is delivered with professionalism, empathy, and clear communication. This position operates under a hybrid work model, requiring both remote and on-site work. Employees must be available to report to the designated work location as scheduled or as operational needs require. About Our Team The Wake County Child Support Office provides services to parents of minor children by establishing paternity and cash and medical support obligations; enforcing and modifying support orders; and collecting and distributing child support payments.
