Overview
Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering. Location options: Irvine-CA, San Diego-CA, and Portland-OR. WSP USA is seeking an Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering. This position supports engineering staff, engineers, and project managers in the development, design, construction, and inspection of port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in public and private sectors. Facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products that meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. Your Impact
With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices for project development, design, and construction. Assist with the development of project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications. Assist with identifying project site, design and construction related risks and providing input on mitigation activities. Write technical reports and document findings using sketches, calculations, Excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software. Prepare presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members and clients. Work with cross-functional teams, including other engineers and multi-disciplinary teams, on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects. Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes. Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures; exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources. Complete all assigned trainings and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program. 0 to 1 year of experience; prior engineering internship experiences accepted. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team; detail-oriented and able to multitask. Proficiency with technical writing, engineering software/tools, and fundamentals including statics and problem-solving; analytical mindset with sound judgment. Experience with AutoCAD and SAP2000 or similar tools. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety and harassment policies. Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs. Preferred Qualifications
1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience, with exposure to ports and marine structures (rehabilitation and new design). EIT Certification. Experience with REVIT, MathCAD, and other similar software. Member of or active participation in local professional practice organizations. Familiarity with marine and coastal engineering principles, practices and regulations and design/build processes. Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
