Located along the Atlantic Coast in southeast Florida, St. Lucie County is known as the Jewel of the Treasure Coast with a mix of old Florida charm and fast-growing communities, offering a high quality of life. St. Lucie County has a Commission/Administrator form of government with a Board of County Commissioners elected at large. The Board appoints the County Administrator and the County Attorney, who serves as the legal advisor to the Board and county entities. There are five constitutional officers: Clerk of the Circuit Court, Property Appraiser, Sheriff, Supervisor of Elections, and Tax Collector. The County contains more than 20 departments, including Airport (general aviation), Port Inlet & Beaches, and Tourism & Venues. The FY2026 Total Budget is $883 million, with a General Fund of $274 million and a Capital Fund of $161 million. The County Attorney’s Office has 38 staff members (10 in Legal, 28 in Criminal Justice), reporting to the County Attorney. Requirements
include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school; and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible legal experience, with five (5) years in government law and civil practice. A minimum of five (5) years supervising attorneys is required. Preferred candidates will have legal experience in growth management, land use, or exposure to land use law, as well as expertise in environmental, contractual, employment, historic preservation, public utilities law, and experience working for a fast-growth community. The starting salary is negotiable, depending on qualifications, and is accompanied by a competitive benefits package. Seniority level
