This position promotes the strategic objectives of ADF’s corporate engagement team. Legal Counsel will conduct and help execute on pioneering legal research that results in litigation and policy solutions that advance the team’s objectives, provide legal defense for shareholder proposals, and provide legal support for allied coalitions of shareholders and business leaders. This position requires someone who has strong communications skills, clear writing abilities, public speaking skills, is creative and innovative, and enjoys a fast work pace. Key Responsibilities
Conduct complex legal research and analysis concerning state and federal legislative, regulatory, and litigation opportunities for achieving the aims of ADF’s corporate engagement efforts. Defend shareholder proposals from company no-action requests to the SEC and provide strategic input, drafting assistance, and legal representation when meeting with companies for the same. Conduct legal and topical research and produce memos, articles, model corporate policies, and white papers on business-related topics that relate to the team’s goals. Provide legal counsel to Christian business leaders on cutting-edge legal matters within ADF’s and Corporate Engagement’s issue areas. Interface with potential clients who have been harmed by anti-speech and anti-religious corporate policies and behavior. Conduct in-depth legal research on court rulings, laws, and regulations impacting federal and state legislative matters that relate to the team’s goals. Build and maintain effective working relationships with policy allies, advocacy groups, and Corporate Engagement team coalitions to advance shared objectives. Advise faith-based and secular businesses on faith in the workplace issues. Assist in the development of testimony, legislation, position papers, and reports. Handle media interviews and public speaking engagements. Work collaboratively within the ADF team and external allies. Minimum Qualifications
J.D., active license in at least one US state bar, and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction within one year Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Affairs, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be obtained. This salary range is reflective of a position based in Washington, D.C. This range is a good faith estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and office location. Washington, D.C. Salary Range:
$133,333.33—$157,142.86 USD
