Augusta, GA The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University invites nominations and applications for the inaugural Chair of the Department of AI & Health. As a groundbreaking addition to Augusta University’s Medical College of Georgia (MCG), the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Health is conducting a national search to recruit its inaugural Department Chair. This new department aims to transform the integration of data science and medicine, positioning Augusta University at the forefront of AI-driven healthcare. Reporting to the Dean of the Medical College of Georgia, the Chair will be a visionary leader capable of inspiring collaboration and innovation, committed to transparency and professionalism. The final applicant’s tenure status will be confirmed in the final employment offer. This position is an administrative faculty role, at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Responsibilities

The Chair will establish and lead a dynamic, interdisciplinary department integrating data science with healthcare delivery and biomedical discovery. Major responsibilities include: Strategic Leadership and Vision:

Provide strategic direction for education, research, and health system integration, aligning with college and university goals. Develop an innovative vision to position Augusta University as a leader in AI-driven healthcare. Leverage technological investments to enhance research and educational impact. Educational and Research Oversight:

Ensure high-quality educational programs, including curricula and fellowships in AI and health sciences. Drive research initiatives emphasizing translational and multidisciplinary research, ensuring compliance with all academic and regulatory standards. Faculty Recruitment and Development:

Recruit, mentor, and retain faculty with expertise in AI, machine learning, and biomedical informatics. Support faculty growth, research excellence, and leadership, with a focus on early-career development. Promote a research culture emphasizing NIH funding and high-impact publications. Funding and Resource Development:

Build external partnerships to expand research visibility and secure funding, especially from NIH and major agencies. Manage resources strategically to support research and educational priorities. Program Development:

Lead multidisciplinary initiatives across health sciences, fostering collaboration with other departments and healthcare stakeholders. Promote joint faculty appointments and interdisciplinary research. Compliance and Quality Assurance:

Oversee adherence to accreditation and regulatory standards. Regularly evaluate and adapt the department’s strategic plans based on emerging trends and healthcare needs. Community and External Engagement:

Foster collaboration within Augusta University, with healthcare partners, and external communities. Represent Augusta University at national forums and develop metrics to assess research and educational impact. Evaluation and Reporting:

Prepare reports on research performance, funding, and strategic outcomes for leadership and stakeholders. Required Qualifications

MD, PhD, or equivalent, eligible for faculty appointment at Associate Professor or Professor level. Candidates should have at least five years of experience at the Assistant Professor level (for Associate Professor) or at the Associate Professor level (for Professor). Must meet USG faculty employment standards, including evidence of teaching, scholarly activity, and successful experience or potential. Preferred Qualifications

Established impactful research in AI, data science, or related health sciences, with a strong record of NIH funding and publications. Experience in academic medical or research environments, with strategic leadership in interdisciplinary initiatives. Proven educator and mentor, with experience in building or leading new academic programs. Strong collaborative skills and ability to build relationships nationally and internationally. Effective administrative skills, including budget management and strategic planning. Shift/Salary/Benefits

This is a full-time, year-round position with a 1.0 FTE. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and achievements, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, tuition waiver, and wellness programs. Salary is subject to funding availability. Promotion and tenure are based on annual review processes. About Us
