Reference Librarian II - Archivist/Special Collections, Public Library of Brookline (Brookline)
The Brookline Public Library is seeking a dynamic Librarian II to serve as a key member of our Reference team — with a special focus on Archivist and Special Collections responsibilities. In this role, you will: Assist patrons in navigating print and digital resources with expert reference and readers’ advisory support; Help manage day-to-day operations of the Reference Department; Steward the Library’s Brookline Room — a rich collection of books, manuscripts, artifacts, artwork, and local history materials; Lead preservation efforts, identify materials in need of care, and make recommendations for improved access; Serve as the point person for Brookline’s partnership with Digital Commonwealth; Oversee the Federal Depository Library Collection and electronic resources; and Interview, train, supervise, and schedule pages, interns, and volunteers. Qualifications
A Master’s of Library and Information Science is required, supplemented by training in library technology and two to three years of progressively responsible experience in library operations. A strong foundation in automated library systems, digital resources, office technologies, and emerging service tools is essential, including proficiency with e-readers, databases, and basic troubleshooting. Experience with the care and handling of archival or fragile materials, government documents, scanning practices, or related preservation workflows is strongly preferred. Must have strong communication skills. Knowledge of foreign language in Spanish, Chinese, or Russian desirable.
