Position Description The Department of Learning Sciences at Georgia State University’s College of Education and Human Development invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to support the Deaf Studies program beginning August 1, 2026. The position seeks expertise at the intersection of Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, and Deaf Education, with a background in interpreting and/or teaching in an ITP/SLIP program. Experience in Deaf Education or Deaf Studies is a plus.
The successful candidate will help shape and lead the Sign Language Interpreting Program through undergraduate teaching, curriculum development, partnership-building, and program leadership. Candidates should have a strong record of teaching, mentoring, research, and professional work related to Deaf Studies, Sign Language Interpreting, and/or Deaf Education, with potential for research in these fields. Assistant Professors are expected to teach undergraduate courses, advise students, contribute to program coordination, build community partnerships for experiential learning, and conduct and disseminate research in the field.

Capacity to design novel research that pushes forward Deaf Studies fields
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations Assistant Professors teaching within the Sign Language Interpreting Program are required to hold NIC or BEI certification. Teaching certifications are valuable but not required.
