The College of AI, Cyber and Computing UTSA plans to launch the

College of AI, Cyber and Computing

(CAICC), aligning with its strategic vision to integrate emerging technologies through interdisciplinary approaches. This college will build on UTSA’s leadership in AI, cybersecurity, data science, and related fields to meet the needs of an increasingly digital world. Located at the UTSA Downtown Campus in San Pedro I and the under-construction San Pedro II, the college will expand UTSA’s role in San Antonio’s tech ecosystem. The campus is situated near cultural, historic, and commercial venues, and the college is expected to enroll over 5,000 students. Faculty and staff will collaborate with local employers and community partners to align academic programs with workforce needs. Position Summary The Founding Dean, reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, will serve as the chief operating and academic officer of the College. The Dean will provide visionary leadership to build upon UTSA’s strengths, promote innovative practices, and enhance the academic experience for students and faculty. UTSA is experiencing significant growth and aims to excel academically, support student success, and expand research and community impact. The Dean must be a passionate advocate for these goals, working with stakeholders to launch CAICC as a cutting-edge institution, capitalizing on the demand for expertise in AI, cybersecurity, and computing. Earned doctorate/terminal degree in a discipline represented in CAICC from an accredited university. Outstanding scholarly achievement and international reputation, suitable for appointment as a full professor in one of the college’s departments. Alignment with UTSA’s core values and commitment to the enrichment of its academic community. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse audiences and addressing challenges effectively. Proven support for interdisciplinary collaboration across academic disciplines and the university. Entrepreneurial mindset to leverage San Antonio’s urban environment for engagement and partnership opportunities. Leadership experience in a research university with integrity, organizational skills, and the ability to inspire faculty, staff, and students within a culture of shared governance and transparency. Financial acumen and experience in academic budgeting and financial management. Understanding of innovative teaching methods and instructional technologies suitable for a large urban university. Proven success in supporting student achievement and improving student outcomes through various initiatives. Experience in recruiting and retaining talented faculty and staff.
