General funds or grant funds, as available Other Conditions: Fall, Spring, Summer Sessions as needed. Part-time Lecturer applicant pool. Non-tenure, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Teaching assignments may include evening, weekend, distance education, television and or off-campus classes for UH Maui College and or Outreach sites (Lanai and Molokai) as part of regular workload. Position begins Fall 2025 Semester. Duties & Responsibilities: Provide high-quality instruction in foundational courses within the Sustainable Science Management (SSM) program. Course topics may include sustainability principles, systems thinking, natural resource management, sustainable development, waste management, community equity, and other interdisciplinary subjects relevant to sustainability. Integrate Hawai?i-focused, place-based content into instruction, emphasizing local and traditional knowledge systems, natural resource stewardship, and the unique social, ecological, and cultural contexts of island communities. Teach assigned courses in areas consistent with academic qualifications and program needs, following established Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs). Assess student learning through fair and effective evaluation methods aligned with course objectives and program standards. Develop and maintain course materials, including syllabi, assignments, exams, and grading policies, in compliance with college guidelines. Hold a minimum of one office hour per week per course taught to support student learning and engagement. Submit grades, attendance records, and other required documentation in a timely manner. Collaborate with the SSM program coordinator and division chair to ensure course content and delivery align with broader program goals and instructional consistency across the curriculum. Participate in course planning, curriculum development, and assessment activities as needed. Deliver instruction via in-person, hybrid, or distance education modalities, as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by the program coordinator or division chair.
Minimum Qualifications: As listed below. All minimum qualifications must be from an accredited institution and for meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis. Master’s degree in Biological Science or Physical Science, or related field. Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability Science or in a closely related field aligned with the course topic. Relevant professional and/or teaching experience in sustainability. Experience with Hawaii's natural and cultural resource management practices. Experience designing or delivering educational materials related to sustainability topics for diverse student populations. Knowledge and experience in corporating Indigenous knowledge and local case studies into course content. Successful community college and or university teaching experience in the field of sustainability. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Ability to use writing assignments and integrate teaching of appropriate thinking skills into course content as an integral part of a student's classroom learning activities. Inquiries:
