Position Information Be a Tar Heel! The UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine seeks to recruit a Chair for the Department of Psychiatry. The department’s vision is to support and accelerate the research enterprise, recruit and train the next generation of psychiatrists, and transform clinical medicine into patient-centered care with high standards of quality, compassion and cost-consciousness. The Department includes 414 faculty, 259 adjunct faculty, 10 advanced practice providers, 75 residents, 10 fellows and 174 staff, with collaborations across multiple UNC centers and programs. Clinical programs include telepsychiatry, a large consultation service to UNC Health emergency departments statewide, and a virtual inpatient psychiatry unit with plans for expansion. The department also hosts a robust training environment with a large general psychiatry residency program and multiple ACGME fellowships. The department reports substantial NIH funding and a commitment to training and mentorship through dedicated programs.

Open Track/Open Rank recruitment; the track and rank will be determined after selection. The selected candidate will hold a primary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and a secondary EHRA Non-Faculty administrative appointment as Department Chair.

Position Summary The School of Medicine seeks an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as Chair for the Department of Psychiatry. The department aims to accelerate research, recruit top investigators, train the next generation of psychiatrists, and deliver patient-centered care with excellence and cost-consciousness. The department comprises about 414 faculty, 259 adjunct faculty, 10 Advanced Practice Providers, 75 residents, 10 fellows and 174 staff, with collaborations across UNC centers such as Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies, Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities, Neuroscience Center, Biomedical Research Imaging Center, Carolina Center for Genome Sciences, TEACCH Autism Program, and Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Clinical services span across the state with a focus on diverse psychiatric conditions, telepsychiatry, and collaborative care models. The department emphasizes training through a renowned residency program, multiple fellowships, psychology internships, and post-doctoral research activities. The department currently conducts significant NIH-funded research and hosts Core facilities for mental health informatics and neuroimaging, among others. This recruitment is Open Track/Open Rank; the final track and rank will be determined after top candidate selection. The selected candidate will hold a secondary EHRA Non-Faculty administrative appointment as Department Chair.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Board Certified Psychiatrist - MD/DO

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Preference for candidates with a distinguished record of clinical excellence in Psychiatry, creative research productivity, administrative skills, and a commitment to education.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
