This is a 12-month, full-time faculty position located in Hickory, NC, with duties based on enrollment and subject to funding. The role works with the PA Studies program director, faculty, and the didactic year team to ensure didactic year learning outcomes are met.
Position Description The Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program faculty have primary responsibility for design and implementation of the educational curriculum, facilitation of all aspects of student learning and student advisement for achievement of educational goals. This principal faculty position has additional administrative duties that support assessment of student learning and progress during the didactic education phase.
Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Responsibilities
Support the program by contributing to the development, review, and continual improvement of the program’s mission, goals, and competencies in alignment with accreditation standards and institutional priorities.
Contribute to instruction and assessment as course coordinator, lecturer, laboratory instructor, and/or small group discussion facilitator in areas aligned with clinical experience and academic preparation; assist with remedial instruction as assigned.
Support curriculum operations including planning, development, delivery, mapping, and continual improvement of program content.
Participate in program operations including admissions and recruitment, as well as instructional, evaluative, administrative, and accreditation-related activities as directed by the program director.
Provide academic advising and mentorship to students throughout the duration of the program.
Engage in shared governance and service on program, college, and university committees and governance bodies.
Demonstrate professional leadership through involvement in relevant physician assistant organizations.
Maintain required professional licensure and certification as applicable to the role.
Pursue continuing professional development relevant to clinical, educational, and academic responsibilities.
Maintain confidentiality entrusted to you by students and colleagues; foster a respectful and welcoming campus environment.
Adhere to ethical principles and professional responsibilities per the university faculty handbook.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the program director.
Administrative Duties
Serve as the chair of the PA Studies Program Curriculum Committee.
Oversee curriculum review and maintain the curriculum map based on NCCPA blueprint and ARC-PA standards.
Provide ongoing analysis of outcome assessments for didactic courses to the program director.
Coordinate instruction scheduling with the program director and course directors (full-time, part-time, adjuncts).
Orient faculty to policies and procedures applicable to the didactic components of the PA Studies program.
Mentor faculty; provide feedback on didactic course materials, syllabi, and remediation activities.
Oversee advising and student success efforts during the didactic phase.
Coordinate with the clinical education team to optimize the transition to the clinical phase.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in a medical science-related field required, with minimum 18 graduate semester hours in content relevant to PA education. An MS in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited PA program is preferred.
Minimum of two years of relevant academic or clinical practice experience.
Currently NCCPA certified or emeritus certification.
Valid PA license in North Carolina or eligibility to obtain licensure.
Teaching experience in PA education is preferred.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.
Record of professional, academic, and administrative achievement is preferred.
Active participation or leadership in local, regional, or national PA organizations is preferred.
Experience with curriculum development, review, and revision is preferred.

Reporting to: The Lenoir-Rhyne University PA Studies program faculty report to the Program Director.
