Overview The Director of Safety is responsible for leading The Greenery Inc.’s company-wide safety strategy, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and fostering a culture where safety is the top priority. The Director of Safety partners closely with branch leadership and executive management to protect employees, reduce risk, and sustain the company’s reputation as a safe and responsible employer. This role reports directly to the Human Resources Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Recruit, hire, and train safety personnel and managers.

Provide leadership, coaching, and accountability to managers on safety practices.

Oversee safety teams responsible for inspections, training, and claims support.

Duties And Responsibilities Safety Leadership & Compliance

Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and training programs across all branches.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and all federal, state, and local safety regulations.

Conduct facility and jobsite inspections to identify hazards and implement mitigation strategies.

Lead Safety Rodeos, safety meetings, and ongoing employee training programs.

Maintain OSHA logs, incident reports, and compliance documentation.

Facilitate hazardous materials training, DOT compliance, and operator certifications.

Collaborate with managers and employees to foster a culture of accountability and safety awareness.

Incident & Claims Management

Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses; identify root causes and corrective actions.

Oversee workers’ compensation and auto claims, ensuring timely resolution and cost control.

Partner with Claims Examiners, attorneys, and vendors on claim management and litigation processes.

Provide leadership with safety and claims performance reports and metrics.

Development & Training (as it supports Safety)

Direct and enhance employee safety onboarding, orientation, and continuous training initiatives to ensure a safe and compliant workforce.

Promote employee development and retention by ensuring continuous safety education and training opportunities.

Leadership & Representation

Represent The Greenery Inc. at safety associations, trade shows, and community events.

Stay informed on emerging safety regulations and industry best practices; adjust policies accordingly.

Serve as the company’s subject matter expert and spokesperson on safety-related matters.

Technology & Data Analytics

Leverage technology and safety management systems to track incidents, monitor compliance, and identify trends.

Manage and optimize online safety portals for training, reporting, and documentation.

Utilize GPS and telematics systems to monitor fleet and driver safety.

Analyze safety performance data to develop proactive strategies and improve outcomes.

Stay current on emerging safety technologies and recommend tools that enhance compliance, efficiency, and employee engagement.

Required Skills/Abilities

Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and relevant safety standards and best practices.

Proven leadership in building and sustaining a strong safety culture.

Excellent communication, training, and presentation skills with the ability to influence all organizational levels.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to manage risk and claims effectively.

Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and safety/HRIS management systems.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, Business, or related field preferred.

7–10 years of progressive experience in safety management, risk management, or related leadership roles (landscaping, construction, or related industries preferred).

Demonstrated track record of leading compliance, safety programs, and incident management across multiple branches.

Worker’s Compensation and claims management experience

Professional safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST, OSHA 500) a plus.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, humidity, cold, rain).

Physically able to conduct inspections and investigations, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Prolonged periods of desk/computer work when preparing reports or managing claims.

Frequent travel to branch locations, job sites, and training events (overnight stays required).
