Overview

Director Safety (Signals & Train Controls) at Metropolitan Transportation Authority. This position provides leadership and coaching for all safety and health matters to construction site management teams, emphasizing front-line supervision. This role manages post-incident matters, including incident investigations, post-incident action items, Workers' Compensation claims, and Early and Safe Return to Work initiatives. Responsibilities

Conduct periodic inspections and audits of construction sites and positions to identify unsafe hazards and conditions. Recommend and facilitate the implementation of effective safety measures per the hierarchy of safeguarding controls and MTA C&D standards to reduce hazards. Facilitate and attend monthly Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, providing guidance on safety and health matters. Ensure follow-up on meeting action items through to completion. Develop and facilitate training programs (orientation, mobile equipment, ergonomics, material handling, hazardous materials, and others as required). Develop and regularly oversee comprehensive Job Safety Analysis for all positions across construction sites. Maintain detailed documentation on safety and health matters (incident reports, risk assessments, Workers' Compensation documentation, and related records). Provide regular progress updates to the Director of Safety. Assist in safety-related matters at other MTA C&D facilities and job sites as required. Stay informed on new legislation and regulations and ensure compliance as required. Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or Construction Safety. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience. Minimum of five (5) years in a management or supervisory role and/or safety manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Competencies

Technical construction safety knowledge (fall protection, scaffolding, confined spaces, cranes/rigging, material handling, hazard recognition). Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, PlanGrid, Bluebeam; general computer literacy. Effective verbal, written, and electronic communication. Valid Driver's License (required for some business units). Ability to conduct field observations/audits, coach, and correct. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to review and improve task planning in the field. Strong organization and time management skills. Ability to work effectively in the office and on job sites, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions. Willingness to immediately visit job sites for incident review and follow-up actions. Ability to participate in intercompany, industry, and client relations. Possess a valid OSHA 30-hour card in Construction Industry (under five years old). Preferred

Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP). First Aid/CPR certification. Other Information
