Overview
San Francisco Friends School seeks an experienced Interim Middle School math teacher to teach 7th-grade Math as a long-term substitute, beginning November 2025 to June 2026 academic year. The Mathematics program emphasizes inquiry-based, conceptual, hands-on work and aims to help students think mathematically, solve problems with confidence, and love mathematics. Teachers participate in regular collaboration, curriculum development, and pedagogical reflection to provide a responsive, student-centered program. The role involves cross-disciplinary collaboration, designing and delivering curricula, and leading a block of interdisciplinary studies. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving with peers are essential.
Responsibilities
Classroom teaching at the Middle School level: 7th-grade Mathematics
Providing positive, constructive feedback and assessing student progress
Fostering collaboration and positive behavior through strong classroom management
Collaborating with colleagues, student support teams, and parents to promote student success
Supporting curriculum development, committee work, and student assessment
Helping to organize and lead middle school-wide, math-focused events
Co-facilitating a student advisory group; supervising lunch and recess; advising a club
Preparing timely parent communications, including quarterly student progress reports
Participating in community-building efforts, school-wide events, and committees
Engaging with parents about math content, approach, and philosophy, including an evening event
Attending and supervising the 7th Grade overnight outdoor education trip and field-based explorations
Facilitating student-led conferences in the second semester
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or higher, in a math-related field preferred
Late elementary or middle school teaching experience in mathematics
Ability to engage, support, and motivate students of all abilities
A love and appreciation for middle school
Openness to Quaker philosophy and a commitment to inclusivity
Highly collaborative and creative team player
Experience working with diverse groups of students and adults
Preferred Qualities
Four or more years of experience teaching middle school math
Advanced degree in mathematics or mathematics education
Knowledge of current pedagogy and hands-on/project-based instruction
Ability to communicate with families in Spanish
Compensation and Benefits Competitive, exempt salary based on experience and qualifications.
Salary range: $2,885 to $6,190 semi-monthly (placement on scale based on relevant teaching experience).
