Senior Full Stack Engineer (Back-End Focused)
Hybrid, New York City The Opportunity
We’re looking for a
Senior Full Stack Engineer (Back-End Focused)
who will be one of the first technical hires at Monstro. This is a pivotal opportunity to lay the technical foundation of our platform, shape the core architecture, and become a founding member of our engineering team. You’ll work with design, product, and executive teams to translate vision into scalable solutions, define technical requirements, and make critical decisions on Monstro’s technical stack, infrastructure, and security. While you’ll contribute across the stack,
your primary strength should be back-end engineering—owning services, APIs, data pipelines, and system scalability. You’ll also drive infrastructure, cloud deployments, and DevOps best practices , ensuring Monstro is built for security, resilience, and global scale. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, tackles complex challenges, and is passionate about building innovative technology that disrupts traditional financial systems. This role offers significant ownership, the ability to influence the product roadmap, and the chance to grow into a technical leadership position as Monstro scales. About Monstro
Monstro, headquartered in New York, is an AI-enhanced fintech company redefining personal finance management through a global financial platform. Our platform provides individuals with a comprehensive view of their financial, legal, and tax life, delivering actionable insights, tailored recommendations, and the ability to act on them. For financial institutions, Monstro unlocks access to personalized customer data and insights. Our data-driven approach helps institutions maximize revenue, boost retention, and attract new clients while lowering acquisition costs. By servicing clients across wealth tiers and offering direct, actionable solutions, Monstro aims to transform the financial services landscape. We are democratizing access to high-quality financial advice and enabling institutions to optimize operations, empower clients, and achieve growth in a digital economy. Responsibilities
Design and implement back-end systems, APIs, data pipelines, and integrations for high performance and scalability. Lead decisions around architecture, infrastructure, and cloud strategy. Own infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices. Establish best practices for monitoring, observability, availability, and disaster recovery. Build secure, compliant systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure with multi-region/global deployments. Implement security practices for a fintech-grade environment (encryption, authentication, access controls, data privacy). Stay ahead of evolving regulatory and compliance requirements. Prototyping to Production Transition design prototypes into production-ready solutions focused on reliability, performance, and scale. Contribute to front-end development as needed, but primarily own the back-end stack. AI/ML Integration Collaborate with data and product teams to integrate AI/ML features into core systems. Define and implement infrastructure to support AI-driven functionality at scale. Partner with design, product, and executive teams to align technical execution with product vision and business objectives. Iterate on platform development based on user feedback and evolving business needs. Future Team Growth Help recruit and mentor engineers, building a collaborative, high-performing technical culture as Monstro scales. Qualifications
Experience 8+ years of software engineering experience with significant back-end focus. Proven track record in architecting and scaling cloud-native systems (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Strong experience with DevOps: CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation). Expertise in databases (SQL and NoSQL), data pipelines, and performance optimization. Experience designing and securing APIs and microservices. Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure or data-driven platforms is a plus. Early-stage startup experience strongly preferred. Technical Skills Proficiency in one or more back-end languages (Node.js, Python, Java, etc.) with full-stack capability. Deep knowledge of distributed systems, scalability, and cloud deployments. Familiarity with front-end frameworks (React, Next.js) and willingness to contribute as needed (or a quick learner). Strong knowledge of networking, monitoring, and observability tools. Understanding of security and compliance standards in regulated industries (fintech ideal). Soft Skills Hands-on builder who thrives in ambiguity. Proactive problem-solver who can make independent technical decisions. Excellent communicator who collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams. Passion for Monstro’s mission to democratize financial access and disrupt fintech. Why Monstro?
